More than Trump he needs to purge from the party. There's a fair few blind followers hanging about.

    Yes and no.

There are a few genuine loons - Boebert , Greene , Gohmert etc.

But people like Cruz and Hawley couldn't care less about anything other than chasing the Power and they'll move wherever they think that is.

If they feel the sands shifting away from Trump and his base , they'll be gone without a backward glance.

Republican House Leader Kevin McCarthy who seemed to disavow Trump on the day of the insurrection went to Taxas on Air Force One today...

Isn't this an entirely meaningless affair since it needs a two thirds majority to pass the Senate, the Senate is deadlocked at 50:50 after the Georgia race and the Dems will only assume control with Kamala Harris as VP after Jan 20th. A few GOP Senators may back it but not enough for 2/3's surely?

Money is a powerful motivator. A lot of corporate donors are pulling the plug so these Republicans will do what's necessary to make sure the money keeps flowing.

Except that's an equally crazy conspiracy theory like the Republican lie about this election.

But Putin is probably falling about laughing, as is Xi. The US is clearly doomed.

No conspiracy about it. Its well documented that Russian involvement swung the 2016 election in trumps favour. Its also well documented how Trump has always been reliant on Russian money to kerp his businesses afloat. And his deference to Putin is wrll documented. Probably the only other leader he hasn't insulted or threatened. Why is that? There's more evidence pointing to it than against.

Wyoming GOP Rep. Liz Cheney, daughter of former VP Dick Cheney, says she will vote to impeach Trump.

My guess is McConnell neutered Trump for nearly a week, told him to play ball, keep his mouth shut and he would box off any impeachment.

Then Trump went out and with his first opportunity, poured more petrol on the issue.

McConnell then leaks the story to Maggie that "he hates Trump" and is glad to see the back of him.

That gives the green light for each Senator to endorse impeachment and allows McConnell to put some space between the Reps and Trump.

Trump then knows McConnell is serious and will resign, asking Pence for a pardon.

Elect a clown... Expect a circus

Which Pence then refuses to to, as 'God told him'

He'll be the first president to be impeached twice. What a stunning record that is.

He may be the first to be impeached twice and ultimately removed.

If McConnell hates him, as written, he can endorse the conviction with an assurance Trump can never run again...

All that is needed is 2/3 or senators present on the day, not 2/3 of all senators.

No President has ever actually been successfully impeached in American History! Would a successful impeachment disbar him from running in 2024? To me it looks like the GOP are afraid he will seek the nomination in 2024 (which he could win), if they expel him from the party he could run indo and destroy the GOP vote handing it to the Dems.

No matter what happens both Obama and Trump will be the puppeteers calling the shots it seems.

maybe they should just let him see out his term and fade away, by kicking him out they'll make him a martyr for those right wing knuckle-heads

There is surely no way that these republicans are putting their heads above the parapet unless there is a guarantee that enough of them are going to flip on this. It all smacks of choreography. First the McConnell reports and then the statements from Cheney etc. I expect more to come and in enough numbers to get the job done.

Maybe they should just have let Osama fade away. Sure making a martyr out of him!

And the thoughts of making a martyr out of HC didn't seem to worry them in 2016

Anyone else think Trump might still turn this around and get another 4 years ?

    To impeach doesn't need a 2/3 majority.

That's why he has already been impeached once. And by the numbers calculated he will undoubtedly be impeached twice.

The 2/3 majority is needed to convict him and remove him from office.

    That won't happen.
