    That's certainly an interesting option

Work through until Easter holidays then?

Why not switch the mid-term break to the last week of January?
Stop talking crazy. That's far too clever an idea.

In all seriousness though that seems like the perfect compromise. Everyone takes two weeks off homeschooling and go back to school on the 15th. Only 6 weeks then to Easter.

    It's flawless.

It makes sense if the numbers are right.

Even if numbers aren't fully right they could be better by the end of midterm in that scenario

viewings were permitted subject to certain covid protocols, now ceased unless property already agreed or contracts signed

Damn, gotta hand it to the Irish people, certainly started to take it very seriously pretty much immediately after things went downhill. What a miraculous turnaround

If you ain't testing close contacts unless they have symptoms its going to make numbers in private homes collapse

Obviously some people in their 30s and 40s will have compromised immune systems and have underlying health issues. The sheer amount of people in the under 50 rage testing positive will lead to some ending up in ICU. Would be interesting to see some figures on the numbers. I would imagine the vast majority of people ending up in ICU will still be older people.

    Decent drop - 2,456 swabs on 17,765 13.82% :)

We'll be the best boys and girls in Europe again in a few weeks after being the worst in the world yesterday. The media are so fcuking annoying with RTE top of the pile with their blasting misery headlines when it is all going wrong. When it starts to improve they still try to make it look miserable. Fcukers.

There is this amazing invention called the off switch on TV's and radios now. Nobody is forcing you to watch or listen to RTE

Exactly. 'People' could be two for all we know. It was nothing more than a 'stay at home' warning. Even as the people are doing a great job of bringing the numbers down, we are still getting the finger wagging and scary stories.

That recent spike in numbers is obviously from household visits during the christmas period, so why closing shops, restaurants and gyms??? WHY??? It's not them causing the spike.

I stopped excercising last year in March..

You should start again. Exercise is good for you.

Unfortunately they are forcing us to pay for it.

True but if people are staying at home and keeping away from others in large enough numbers, like March, that only really matters statistically.

    Schools?

Exactly. Schools are closed so much fewer , "household outbreaks"

Between being top in the world with Covid increases and highest number of mothers and babies living in state-run homes which had huge infant mortality historically, it has not been a great look for Ireland in global media this week.
