I've said it over the weekend and I'll say it again now. We will be close to 1000 cases by this weekend. Our dramatic increases was because of Christmas and we will have an equally dramatic decrease. Hospital figures will likely be at a peak this weekend. I think our new cases peak was well over a week ago.

I can't see how cases could be 1,000 as soon as this weekend unfortunately. And there could be lag of hospitalisations of 2/3 weeks from peak in cases.

8% of today's cases are swabs from the last three days, according to Fergal Bowers who was quoting Tony H.

Nolan had a chart up separating cases into swab date. It was interesting.

They wouldn't know. Congratulations on cracking the code, keep it a secret though.

Yeah I was stopped after completing a major drug deal.
Just told them I was heading to Tesco.
    Drive on they said!! :D

Stopped at a checkpoint earlier taking the cat to the vet. Just told them where I was going and that was it. Sure you could just tell them any old shíte, how would they know you're lying?

I always say I'm going shopping. They couldn't look more disinterested to be honest

Fergal Bowers on the RTE news thank feck, really factual and with some positives....give George Lee a break imo, he would wreck your head

Mo matter how bad it is Fergal will always put it in a good light.

Yes it cleared things up a bit. I guess he was saying there is always a backlog (or delay in confirming cases) but it is usually less than 3 days, and it stretched out to more than that. It's back to normal delays now. All of this supports looking at the swab data, rather than case data (which can go up and down due to reporting issues rather than actual changes in numbers)

I think we likely peaked well over a week ago. Hospital figures to peak at the weekend. ICU to peak around the 20th. We are suffering because of Xmas. That's over now. Most people am have limited contacts since around new years. The daily figures are all over place but starting to come right now.

    I don't agree.
    He was very factual.
Signs things might have levelled off to a degree. But emphasising how serious things still are.

George Lee is all hand wringing and negativity, even when things were looking positive. Doesn't know the data well either imo.

Personally I don’t think its a good idea or very professional to be causing anxiety by posting such things
There are people reading these threads with loved ones who are ill and are terrified . There are ill people reading maybe who will be so scared to read about this
I dont think that scaring people is worth it just to point score
Pointing out that things are sh*t and wishing people would cop-on is not "point-scoring", ffs.

My goodness, NPHET don’t seem to want to answer journalists questions re data, variants, percentages, etc. They just want to single out people who dare go to the park, shop, near anyone else. They all keep repeating stay at home. We all know this - this press conference needs to have more information on the restrictions and their effectiveness, vaccinations, variants, positivity rate, etc.

Why no? Nothing else to do for about an hour. Beats just asking repeat questions.
    ;)

I haven't asked the question before, or seen anyone else asking. Sorry for not keeping up with every single post Jim. The job, kid and life kind of get in the way. Thanks for the info though, although someone else already answered. Repeat answers hey, tut ;)

Their over focus on negativity, raising the fear in the population actually backfired as people switched off for December.
We need to hear the way forward - projected outcomes for Level 5+, what will the vaccination programme achieve by say March, etc.

The knots some people will get themselves into to put the blame on NPHET or the 'demon dictator' Hologhan for basically everything. Same posters every time as well.

Like, give your head a shake there.

According to the data presented, socialising went to pre-pandemic levels before Christmas (perhaps compared to Feb 2020?) and resulted in us having the worst 14-day incidence in the world. I'm sure Tony and the lads are absolutely blue in the face saying Stay at Home, but believe it or not, some people are still not hearing it.

no doubt now we have turned the corner in transmission levels. fairly dramatic fall in positive swabs and a good downward 7 day positivity trend. hospitals of course won't peak for probably at week at least.

Finally some relative clarity on the vaccine, too many people thinking it was like drinking from the Holy Grail.

That’s very true, but I do think there are people absolving NPHET, George Lee and the mainstream media for their constant doom over the Summer / early Autumn. It did reduce compliance as people switched off in my opinion.
