This article suggests the players who tested negative last Monday might play and a decision on the game will be made tomorrow - https://www.birminghammail.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/aston-villa-tottenham-game-covid-19598598

Interesting. Birmingham Mail not the most reliable of Villa sources (they’ll print anything some random ‘ITK’ posted on Twitter), but they’re putting their money where their mouth is with that prediction so maybe they do have information.

I will certainly revise my 90%+ based on that new information, but given how Fulham were treated (even for their 2me game) I don’t think it would be fair for the game to go ahead with 9 Villa positives and a closed training ground.

Why hasn’t it been announced who the players where who tested positive?

    First draft. Thoughts?

We have 10 in common so I can't complain. If you downgraded a couple of defenders you could upgrade Zaha, maybe to Rashford.

Confidentiality. And the league told the clubs not to

Is this new cause clubs have been sharing info previously?

Smith's first-team squad have continued to isolate since last week's bombshell announcement surrounding 14 positive tests, which include five members of staff. Villa's players and staff were first tested on Monday (January 4); they trained together on Tuesday (January 5) before results came through on Wednesday (January 6) where a number of the nine players tested positive.

Those with negative tests were tested again on Wednesday (January 6) with a small number of positive tests coming back once more on Thursday (January 7) to take Villa's total to nine players affected prior to the cup clash with Liverpool.

10 days from the 4th is the 14th - are they going to go bending rules for the game on the 13th if players do test negative after a second test. You could end up in a situation of the bigger teams with a positive case, testing them everyday until they get a negative if they allow that.

Secondly - does anyone else not think they should all be isolating until the results come back? No wonder there are multiple outbreaks if they test, then train together before getting results.

If the PL want to get this season finished on time they can't have lads running around in between tests especially now that the UK has a 1 in 50 rate of having the virus.

Ah, quite the conundrum there with all the information likely to float around in the meantime. Would avoid Villa and Spurs if you have to set and forget today.

I might get a look tomorrow evening. But I don't know yet, so o want to set up and a set and forget just in case. Will avoid villa and spurs for now on it.

It's a personal decision for each player to announce it. You can't disclose people's medical history without consent.

I see a lot of talk about a lack of slots to put dates into, but those models seem to resolve around teams having 3 days break between games.

However, if you look at their Christmas fixture period they have no problems piling games in then.

Would it be ideal if they have teams playing after 2 days off to fit postponed fixtures in? Definitely not. But it certainly wouldn’t be them veering wildly from their own policy either.

I saw this tweet earlier, It's not really fair on spurs through no fault of their own to pack games so closely together though?

It would be best for the PL to start getting postponed games played instead of pushing them out. Spurs themselves despite being in London seems to have escaped an outbreak - but that couldn't easily change - and those 2 or 3 games postponed could turn into 4 or 5.

1 things for sure love covid postponements or hate them - they make FF even more interesting.

Imagine you keep refreshing FF after 1 hour past deadline to see that your rival has 3 - 4 players from a fixture thats called off, the twisted satisfaction from that :pac: put on your genius hat and tell yourself "Pfff that was obvious it was gonna be called off. this lad has no idea what he is doing!"

I would agree with you. But you've let Newcastle, Man City and Fulham (twice) away with it. You can't turn around to the next team and say 'sorry we're not letting anyone away with it anymore. We've given Fulham 2, but you're not even having 1'.

With that said, it is probably not that likely that Spurs make both the FA Cup and Europa League final, but if they do have to jam in some Spurs games to make the season fit, I would suggest they do what they did with Liverpool and go with the cup game. Because it means less than the league and again, because it is consistent.

There are alot of things I would disagree with in how the league has operated so far, but even the things I disagree with need to be applied consistently.

First proper mock up of my FH team this afternoon, previously mentioned I'm going with the assumption that Spurs Villa will be called off hence I haven't included anyone.

Darlow (Ramsdale) Gone with the two starting GK's in the SHU/Newcastle game and intend to start Darlow. I would go for Dubravka only I've 3 Newcastle already.

Tierney, Cancelo, Shaw (Clark, Mitchell) Tierney looks to be in good form, an assist last night and a real threat going forward. Good wingback. Was a toss up between Cancelo and Dias but feel Cancelo has a higher ceiling. Should start right...? Shaw I'm not overly happy with and may swap out. (I want somewhat of a playing bench. Yedlin will most likely start at least and Mitchell I'm 50% confident he'll play, hopefully won't be needed and an enabler at his price)

    Sterling, KDB, Bruno, Saka (March)

I was going to punt on Gundogan but feel there is just too much potential with KDB and Sterling. Hoping they run riot. Fernandes is a no brainer for me. Saka has been in decent form lately and gold at his price. (March the bench fodder for 2 points should anything happen)

    DCL, Lacazette, Wilson

I found the forward line tough. DCL not in form, Lacazette in form but I'm not confident owning him and Wilson is Wilson, he should be scoring against SHU. No one else standing out for me in that forward line. Would love to punt on Martial/Cavani but too risky IMO. Toyed with the idea of Rashford in midfield but funds wouldn't allow it.

Would appreciate any comments/feedback positive or negative! :D
As other said, Shaw injured. Any concern that Dubravka (or Dubrovnik as Danny Murphy called him repeatedly last night) will play for Newcastle?

I have pretty much same team, Mari instead of Tierney and a 4.0 goalkeeper allows me Rashford instead of Saka. Could you afford that?

    Currently have:

    DDG (Sanchez)

    Cancelo Tierney Bogle (Clark, Mitchell)

    KdB Aubameyang Saka Bruno Traore

    Aguero Martial (Davis)

Aguero is there but given today’s news it could be a case of redeploying elsewhere & going with double City defence.
A lot of wildcards in there, you're braver than me having PEA, Kun, Martial and Traore. Are you far behind in leagues? If I was competitive I'd be playing it safer than that.

I know they've said that, but I find it weird that they're using that as an excuse, like don't they literally have a press conference every week where they discuss players injuries (aka medical condition).

There's no chance Villa accept playing with a depleted team having already agreed to postpone against Newcastle when the situation was reversed

All villa have to do, is claim soon the youth players are showing symptoms the lunch time off the game, and publically state it that all squads are isolating until the test returns a negative...breaks loads of rules I'm sure, but it would be a PR disaster from the EPL to pull them on it

I've been planning for the skinny game week and have 2 FTs ready but also 5 players in the spurs vs Villa game. Looks like my planning is gone to waste and I'll have sacrifice the 2 transfers and play the free hit.
    Very annoying

I also will have 5 out if the villa spurs game is called off. Planned not to use my FH. But if it is called off I will have no choice. Would likely save me 20 points then if I use the FH.
Transfers are not an option for me as it would cost me -12 to get a decent team as I already got Fernandes in earlier. Plus I do not want to transfer out Spurs players only to want them back in.

As long as there is a definite yes the game is on, or no the game is off before fpl deadline, I will be happy.

At least then I can make a decision. If it is might, maybe's etc it will be a harder call to make, will probably err on the side of caution and FH.

Guff about stuff, and stuff about guff.

I’ve dropped down to 1.2m OR from 200k 3 GW’s ago after banking on Liverpool.

Kun will probsbly now become Dias as he seems to be isolating.

PEA is definitely worth considering on a 1 week punt. He is on penalties & scored recently in FA Cup. He’s a streaky player so why not now. Arsenal have started to hit form, so I’m comfortable to gamble on a player of his Quality. What other matches are there for a 2goal plus player

My general hunch is that Sheff U will beat Newcastle and I can see a lot of teams going in on Newcastle. I’m happy to go up against a team like Newcastle.

Martial will play with Cavani suspended & rested in FA Cup. There is much striker options. I could go Lacazette and drop Saka for someone else or play a Wolves/Everton defender

Might revert to Laca & look for a Saka alternative now

Ya Fulham unhappy about it as they have only found out after there cup game so obviously they would have played a different team. Hard to see it going ahead if Fulham aren't happy

Yeah, it would not be right at all on Fulham.

I see why the Premier League are in a fixture panic, but come on.
