Mods changing threads every 6 month/a year to keep it fresh

A lot of threads get stale because of how by the very nature of boards.ie it is mod and regular poster driven. I think it would be a good idea to have mods changing threads every 6 months or a year to keep the mods fresh, and prevent the same vibe being lead by the same posters/mod. It should lead to a change in atmosphere as each mod has a different style of modding and different opinions.

I really cannot see much benefit from such an approach. I modded the Cycling forum for a long time, and other mods have been on that forum for even longer. They all have a great interest in the topic, and in some cases little interest in other forums. There are a very large number of specialist forums where "swapping" mods every 6 months could be disastrous. Equally some of the most popular forums often require mods with certain attributes that may not be easy to identify in others. Forums like AH, Soccer and Current Affairs benefit from the experience of the mods in dealing in complex and difficult issues (as well as users!)

Yeah it was forums I meant. I suppose the idea would not work in niche areas. But in ones where there is a broad interest like radio for instance it could work.

Because it would prevent a culture prevailing on a thread and dominating. My idea is sort of like why there is is only a certain term for a President. Or a government has elections after at least a number of years.

I know some moderators are excellent and very fair regardless of their views on a topic. But for others let's just say it is run akin to a personal fiefdom. Some sort of rotating moderator (where feasible and possible) would be a good idea.

Mods are volunteers, as are Cmods and admins. We offer our time to help run the communities on the site that we enjoy and feel we can best contribute to.

If I was told that from monday I was being demodded from LGBT and would instead be modding the Donegal forum for the next 6 months what would incentivise me to do this? I dont know the forum, dont know the area/subject matter and would end up phoning it in or, more likely, stepping down which would be a disservice to the regular users of that forum.

I get the thinking behind your idea, I really do, but it is unworkable and would be very detrimental to the running of the site
