There was no way we were going to lose this match. Villa had 2 chances and they scored once. When we played our kids against them we had a few good chances before Villa scored twice quickly to kill off the match. In this one after we scored quickly Villa rallied at the back but they were just containing us and then scored a good goal with their chance.

It does seem like we were taking it easy in the first half as well, we aren't a team to rub it in against PL teams so we were never going to try to score 10 to humiliate them. But being level at 1-1 at halftime meant we had to come out and impose ourselves and they had no threat against us. Look at the stats,

    Possession, 83% -17%
    Shots, 29 - 2
    On Target, 13 - 1
    Corners, 18 - 2

We did what we had to against their kids, hopefully some of our players did enough to keep sharp for Sunday. Hopefully no injuries either. Not a bad night and I will never complain when we win and don't seem to suffer any injuries.

So when Liverpool mention their past success it's "Liverpool fans living in the past"

When they mention their current success it's "Ehh football wasn't invented yesterday!"

    Choose one :p

Great reply and my retort would be that I've grown up to see the team I support since a kid win just about everything in the game multiple times.

I've seen the first league title in nearly 30 years, ive seen two european cup wins which were two glourious nights, seen some of the best players in the world dedicate their peak years and indeed their entire career to the club, ive seen in my opinion the greatest manager ever lived in charge of the club for most of my life.

If united never won another trophy id never trade the joy they brought me the same as the older liverpool supporters wouldn't trade the 70s and 80s for nothing.

I want Milner to finish his career as a player at Liverpool and go straight into the coaching staff.

Anyway no injuries, a couple good performances for some players still finding fitness, and in the end an easy win....looks like Klopp made the right decision after all.

    Can he switch back?

He has already switched from Ireland to England.

    Yeah, underage lads can switch back and forth. Look at someone like Dan Crowley who played;
    England U 16
    Ireland U 16
    England U 17
    Ireland U 17
    England U 19

And has since said he'd like to play senior for Ireland.

Barry himself started with England U 15, then switched to Ireland 15's and 16's, and then back to England 16's and 17's.

I know, realistically, he's probably gonna stay with England if he has half a chance of making it with them, but sure we can dream!

Horrendous first half, quite decent second half. Thiago, and to a lesser extent Shaq, the difference.

Thiago really is just mesmeric to watch, just an incredible footballer, has absolutely everything at the highest level. Thought it was interesting how often he looked for Shaqiri, wonder if they've struck up a bit of a relationship on the training group.

Would they have played together at Bayern?

The same lad moved from Barcelona to Birmingham. He can’t be that fussy when it comes to internationals. :pac:

Great interview from the lad there, the media training will turn him into a bore like every other professional footballer but you love to see that genuine sort of interview.

He's done it for years against the best teams in the world at both club and international level, it's not like this is his first performance

He's spent the majority of the season injured or infected but has shone pretty much any time he's played so far, he broke records against Chelsea and was great against Everton, including doing this after suffering an injury that would put him out of commission for over 2 months.

Am I the only one annoyed at the result purely cos of the first half performance?

I think the goals only came in the second half because the Villa kids legs tired, moreso than through good Liverpool play. Yes, Thiago & Shaqiri had some good play but as a whole, the team flattered to deceive IMO. Not in a good place pre biggest game of the season. I didn't listen to Klopp afterwards but even Milner seemed a bit off. Maybe the players know it too.

    Midfield was awful again,
Jones isnt good enough YET for us,

Thaigo and Shaq looked good by simply not passing the ball side ways every time they got it,

Our midfeild has become too obsessed with keeping the ball and not giving it away, This makes them take an extra touch and take 2 extra secnds to look for the easiest pass but whats added to this os they aren't making runs because they are scared if they lose it our back line will be got at, Its football with the handbrake on

The two lads came on and started popping it around quicker bit also shifting there own position,

Our movement lately has been horrific, its been two robotic andnot fluid, Thigo and Keita will help massively with that, also Jota started so well because he makes different runs not just the same ones over and over

Totally agree. The midfield and the quick play is a big worry now.

Everything just seems so slower, an extra touch, and extra feint all over the midfield and attack. Players are taking the easy option of passing backwards too often.

As you said, hopefully with Thiago and a returning Keita that this can bring back some of the quickness in play. We can't really rely on Keita a whole lot so maybe Shaqiri is the man that can come in.

I remember reading before about a player like Shaqiri, can't remember who it was (actually could have been Shaqiri himself!) but basically while he is fit, just use him as much as we can and get the best out of him while he is fit. He'll eventually break down again so get those 6 performances out of him while he is available. He can unlock defences.

So a midfield of Hendo, Thiago, Shaq for the Utd game? After our last three/ four games, i’d give it a go!

For that particular game I'd still play Gini over Shaq, we need someone hassling Bruno at all time.

Diego Lainez has potential, in Klopps hands. Could be next Salah.

Would not be surprised if it's Hendo & Fabinho at CB and then Gini, Thiago and one of Keita/Shaqiri in midfield.

Yeah I can’t see Williams starting for us again in the PL. He was badly shown up tonight against an academy lad from Villa. I can only imagine what Rashford would make of him. Phillips hasn’t started against any team with pace up front either, which United have.

It’ll be Henderson and Fab at the back if Matip isn’t back.
