    One in 30 seems incredible.

Is it one in 30 confirmed cases or is it based on their Zoe survey? If confirmed PCR, that's nuts...

No Plan B seems like hysterics to me? I'm by no means underestimated the seriousness, but they've surge capacity to enter, no?

Some hospitals may have already stood up surge capacity.

Tbh I'm not sure if this includes surge capacity or not or how long it takes to set up. Might be just hysterics from him as you say but it might not.

Maybe Beaumont doesn't? Not sure all hospitals have. Maybe 'plan b' for a patient needing IC is to move them to another Dublin hospital?

So things getting scary, anyone think it's time to crack each other's heads open and feast on the goo inside?

Richard got 'failure of govt' into his Tweet and that's all that matters to him.

It seems par for the course during this pandemic but we appear to be watching a neighbour in dire straits and not reacting to our own situation. It seems pretty clear that we are going to have to do more to stop this, mobility data alone shows we are no where near what we did in the spring.

Strange one - anyone else's skin very dry? Same issue at the start of lockdown 1. Plenty of moisturiser but it's only helping to an extent.
    Are you wearing washable masks?

Some of the washing agents are right irritating for the skin and that can dry it out.

Well with every company deeming themselves essential that’s not really a surprise that everyone is still out and about!

I'm getting spots around the mask area. someone needs to invent an anti-wrinkle spot cream for the pubescent 41 year old :pac:

Well, large construction sites seem to be continuing on and passing under the radar. Some have thousands on site still moving around, coming from the North and all over. Hearing there's no temp checks or covid managers on some sites, breaking up large groups congregating together such as happening on smoke breaks...

Are you in a house with central heating on most of the time ? That can make the air and consequently your skin very dry .

Well large ones who are deeming themselves "essential" under the exporting/FDI sector category are staying open. Intel, fb, lots of others.

    (FDI=foreign direct investment)

While our ICU situation across most hospitals is in poor shape, there absolutely is a Plan B, including at Beaumont.

Anyone have any idea what the ICU survival rate is (UK or Irish)?

My brother's friend is a doctor in a hospital in Cork and he said in the previous waves people were requiring hospitalization within 10 days, now its about 3 days. So we may see hospital figures peak much earlier.

Was there a time lag over Christmas in people seeking tests on top of the time lags in reporting of cases? So maybe there will be an earlier peak.

What does a major incident mean in practical terms? All available staff have to come to work?

It was suggested by Colm Henry (iirc) that people were delaying being tested over the Christmas period and that the time from test to hospital admission was therefore shorter.

Non-essential services, out patient appointments, elective surgeries and so on are all gone.

20 further deaths in the North and 1,500 new cases.

Northern Ire appear to be past their peak. Hopefully it will continue to decline .

  • From watching the news in the UK it seems people took the 3 households as meaning 3 different households each day. Are people really that thick.
