I didn't see that, but I'm surprised to hear that was discussed. We know from several papers (e.g. bus, call centre) that 2m or 20m doesn't make much difference (unless you are directly in droplet range), and it all depends on air-flows in indoor locations as to how safe you are.

To be fair their main basis for this view was the as yet unexplained spread of the variant in an already at Tier 4 Kent, so watching with interest, and unease.

Teachers refusing to work it seems.

    Will their wages be docked?

    No, and you know that.

They'll provide online teaching as they did in March .

They're not - they just think it's not the right time to return to work on the school premises because it's not safe to do so right now - Emma O'Kelly said so.

Am I missing something on the calculations here or are the hospitalisation and ICU admission percentages on the HPSC 14 day reports completely wrong?

I.e. 25-34 age group shows hospital admissions of 79, but a percentage of 10.91%. I’d take it as being 1.22%?

    I believe its

Cases in age group hospitalised as a % of total cases hospitalised

    Rather than

Cases in age group hospitalised as a % of total cases in age group

Norma should have sticked to her guns and reopened the schools for children with special needs.

This will cause enormous stress for so many families now.

Could be but both scientists ( they normally have one against the other , lol ) on Prime Time last night were in agreement that the current 2 m SD may not be sufficient to halt the spread of the variant !
Sorry, really I don't know whether I seek it out but I don't seem to be posting any good news lately :/

    No change there really :/

I'm absolutely gutted and worn out. The most vulnerable children forgotten about AGAIN

    Who over ruled Norma?

It just shows how powerless line ministers are.

Norma Foley: "the public health advice that was made available...the public health advice that was made available...the public health that was made available..."

Deflect, deflect, deflect. Never ever own the error of judgment, just blame others and save her own skin.

Do the conspiracy people genuinely believe this, or are they just winding people up? I mean how?

I have a degree in biomedical sciences. Just for the purpose of debate, could somebody go through, in biological terms, with reference to the relevant academic references, the proposed biological mechanism?

Thanks - yes you’re right, the percentage column adds up to 100%

    Cabinet make collective decisions.

Technically, but in real terms, it's 2 or 3 people in the cabinet that make the decisions.

If wearing a mask in shops is a legal obligation then, presumably, the proprietors can refuse admission to people who refuse to wear masks or refuse to wear them properly, can't they? After all, the shops are private entities and so they can bar those who break the law, can't they?

Is there an online plan? I have 3 kids in diff years in school and all they got was homework each Sunday night back in March if that is what you mean by online. Haven’t heard a peep yet for next Monday but Norma did also alude to an online plan so great it’s coming.

The politicians are that scared that they're calling them "partners" rather u****s.

    The Chinese drink.

I worked with a Chinese lad once and he was a martyr for the drink. Funny thing was after half a pint he'd turn as red as a tomato.

    Interesting

I wonder is a contributory factor to the better fatality rate in ICU compared to the UK?

It is one of many drugs being used . It is quite toxic so patients are carefully selected to go on it and are carefully monitored .
I am sure they are using it in the UK too in ICU .

I'd love to know where you people shop because I've not seen somebody in a shop without a mask for months

Norma Foley on prime time just said we will have one million people vaccinated by June.....
I really doubt that tbh....they seem to be extremely slow on rolling them out

I think she’s doing her best. There are a huge amount of people out there that want schools open right now. Equally there are many who want them closed indefinitely. Dammed if she does & dammed is she doesn’t.

Tony alcohol bashing. Won't be popular. "This virus loves alcohol"

And Alcohol has another undesirable effect, it significantly supresses the immune system, which makes it easier for the virus to infect people. So, as well as encouraging a reduction in people's inhibitions, it then also reduces the body's ability to fight off the virus.

Seems to me that if people can be encouraged to reduce their alcohol intake, it might help reduce the numbers being infected.

Shore, if it was easy, everybody would be doin it.😁

I don't think you understand what you are trying to measure with quality adjusted life years. So I don't know how to answer the question because you aren't making sense.

I’m struggling to believe certain claims here!

It’s not actually a difficult question for someone with your background

Vaccines have cost analysis using QALY

I was wondering had you seen any studies on it for the Covid vaccine as you were mentioning the economic effects of 6 monthly inoculation for Covid as being cost prohibitive

I agree,no fan of FF but she’s not going to win regardless of what she does, too many vocal objections on each side of the debate

Oh we will definitely have 1 million vaccinated by June, that's a very conservative estimate once Astra Zeneca and J&J vaccine come on stream.
