The January transfer window may help LFC a lot. Just as well it's almost January, eh?

They won't be for long if they keep playing like they have played for much of the first 16 games, would that be fair to say?

They lost 1 game so far in those 16 games and they're top. If they keep that up for the next 16 games then they'll likely win the league. A few scrappy draws are not the crisis you're trying to paint it out as.

Liverpool have drawn with brighton, fulham, west brom and newcastle this season, on paper it should be an easy 12 points. Is it down to the wrong tactics or just the players not being up for the game?

    There's always the burnout factor.

'Neutrals' are blind to it but large amount of injuries for Liverpool so far this season not only weaken the team that is on the field playing, but also increases the workload of others. This burnout shows mainly in midfield with Henderson & Gini baring that weight on their shoulders. Gini has been a mainstay of Liverpool this season and had to play every game. He has looked a bit tired the last while so had only been able to play 180 mins from the last 270, and below par at that. Henderson was poor tonight too, and Jones was very bad. An accumulation of these players having to play more minutes than expected in a shorter timeframe over the last few months. Jones is a young kid learning his trade but is being pushed forward into a starting role every week. He has had some great performances but can't be expected to do that every week.

Now that Thiago is coming back closer to fitness, hopefully this issue might not be as prevalent but another problem has arisen in the shape of no fit capable CBs so Henderson might have to join Fabinho in playing CB. And you guessed it, this then loads Gini's workload once again.

Don't forget that this season is different to seasons before in terms of a congested fixtures schedule. This has made a lot of teams look tired, not just Liverpool. But others too.

Wasn't there two all English European finals in 2019?

Must have skipped being poor that season so.

It peaked in 1999, then again in 2008, oddly.

No, wouldn't be fair to say.

For the first 16 games they've gathered enough points to be top of the table. If that happens again, they'd still be top after 32.

They haven't played great for 16 matches but if they're top now and played the same again, it's quite possible that they'd be top after another 16. So no, it wouldn't be fair to say at all, it doesn't make any sense to be honest

Oddly it appears to be LFC fans forgetting and claiming its Uniteds to loose :pac:

The underdog angle is getting desperate now.

But liverpool were supposed to be one of the best teams ever after their league win last season. Now they're hiding behind lack of crowds and injuries excuses.

They are top of the league having played ****e, that is the sign of one the greatest teams ever.

Your right it is, utd have spent over a billion quid on this squad. They need to stop hiding behind the underdog tag and win something.

being cynical, i would say the drop in the top teams is due to covid testing. put your inhalers away cos your getting tested.

its not the crowds, or the fixture list. those are the only 2 things that have changed? yet top teams are dropping points across europe. what else explains this?

Ah this oul chestnut. A billion spent on this squad. Would you please support your claim there for illustrative purposes. Sure haven't Liverpool spent more in the hunt to win one premier league title?

Trying to portray United as favorites whilst sniggering up your sleeves and chanting in thank god Ole's at the wheel... heaven forbid they'd a proper manager

You're fooling no one only yourselves.

Seems Everton aren't happy at all with City resuming football operations today. Not happy with the league that is and still waiting for answers as to why the game was cancelled too. Nice rest for City in a hectic period but will of course lead to a hectic period for them at some other point of the season!

Couldn't care less what other Liverpool fans are saying, tbh. Liverpool will win it this season, imo.

2 years ago I predicted City would win the PL and we'd win the CL. I thought we'd win the PL last season. I think we'll win it this year but it'll be a lot closer. City in 2nd, Utd in 3rd.

And who wins the CL this season?

That's the big prize for me

its their own fault. last seasons heineken cup winners were awarded a 28-0 defeat cos they couldn't field a team.

those rules were established prior, and everyone agreed, and no one gives out when they are enforced.
premier league is different though...different rules depending on what the team is, and if its on TV. all down to money rather than player welfare.

    Honestly, no idea.

When I called the season 2 years ago it was just before the CL quarter-final stage. When I called last seasons PL, it was in the summer. This season, even after all our injuries, I think we'll still do it. If I was to make a call on the CL... Bayern again.... revolutionary, I know.

With so many of Europe's elite underperforming, I have a feeling it might finally be PSG's time under Poch. They've struggled a bit themselves this season too, but come crunch time they should probably have bought enough distance in the league that they can rest key players every so often for the CL.

Think that benefit of being able to sidestep the absolutely hectic schedules all the other top teams face could be very decisive. I still don't think they're the absolute best team, but they might be the best placed team.

Serious back-tracking indeed, on quite a few levels since United are now out of it.

We're talking about the premier league original post said the quality of the league has been bad the previous 2 years.

From my reading of the thread it was about the CL by that point. Had to actually stop and think "United are out of it, right?" for a second when I read your post.

On the PL...I'd argue that the quality of the Top 4 contenders was poor over the last couple of seasons. No arguing though that City and Liverpool were a level above those, and even if the rest of the league was "poor", those two teams were among the very best in Europe over the last couple of seasons.

Yeah I'd agree although some of the "big 6" have had their moments over the last 2 years , united very good since the covid break till now, good fair post.

what did salah fail to do that the headline reads: salah and liverpool denied by darlow heroics'?

    did he miss a sitter?

Something which annoys me a lot is newspaper/broadcaster ratings of players after matches. According to Sky, Salah was the worst player on the pitch last night and pretty much all the Newcastle players played better than Liverpool's best player.

This shows the quality of Sky analysts.

Simon Harris is monitoring the situation...

Darlow made a fingertip save to a Salah shot that was going in when 1 on 1 with him.

There were some other goalmouth chances like Mané's but Salah puts that first chance away more times than not and it was a terrific save

Because they achieved what they set out to achieve. chances mean nothing they sat back and allowed pool have the ball of course they gonna give up chances.. saves and blocks are the bread and butter of defending i would of thought that wasn't too complicated for most football fans?

I know you are a WUM but did you actually watch the game?
