Saw this ugly monster in Liffey Valley...

I included the Clio here for comparison purposes as it looked tiny against the Roller...

Are you sure it wasn't parked in Rathkeale?

Lots of Tesla taxis in Amsterdam, mostly Model S. Early ones at that. And the first Model 3 has been officially put on the road as a licensed NYC taxi.

Doesn't seem to be any big NL government grants for them over there, I had a quick Google and there's a 4 year lease deal available from Telsa but other than that seems to be nothing. Interesting to know how they became so popular over there and not so widespread elsewhere, base price here must be nearly the same as would the taxi fare be.

It is all in the tax you pay when you drive a company car.
EV's have 0% of the value added to your salary on which you pay tax. Hybrids 8% and fuel\diesel 22%

I might have the specifics not completely right but that is a bit the idea.

As for the price of a new one. Ireland has VRT, The Netherlands has BPM (not the musical kind) where you pay tax on top of the cost price of the car and then on the total you pay VAT.
And oh.... motor tax is calculated on the weight of the car with an extra kick in the ass when driving i na diesel. My diesel here €200 tax pa, over there it would be €1400

Fun is over for that 0% for EV's next year though.

That's the way it should be get those dirty diesels off the road.

Typical Ireland government drive a diesel and all you will have to pay is roughly €200 motor tax a year. Dumb bástards. And then they finally figure out diesels are not as clean as they thought they were. I'm no expert on anything but I could have told them that.

Tax by weight makes so much more sense. Small car, big engine :D

There's a white Model 3 working as a taxi in Cork City

Cars running on the much cleaner LPG get the same kick in the arse roadtax wise in The Netherlands.
So whatever the reason is, it isnt the environment.

Denmark was tax by weight until 1998, when it was changed to co2 as it was harmonised with the EU. The old system was unfair to some cars, too.

I'm guessing what was meant by the Other Poster (and I could very well be wrong) was that he was initially too distracted by the blonde woman at the front of the taxi to take any heed of the taxi. If this is the case it probably is somewhat lost on me too as she is hardly jaw dropping to look at, probably somewhat past it even. But hey as I mentioned I could be wrong and it has passed totally over my head too:)

I gave up on this thread as there is so much chat on it. 1 decent car every few days and then crap loads of chat discussing it. Pic of the new Peugeot 5008
