For research purposes I've ordered some Paddy. Bit rough around the edges but once you get into it it's grand. Wouldn't buy a bottle but I wouldn't turn down a free glass of it. First pints of Guinness since March. Going down well.

It seems overpriced, if anything, compared to the Powers and Bush.

Folks, Drumshambo Pot Still...worth a last ditch punt for Christmas to share with the Aul Fella?

At 50 yes to try it - at 60-70 no .I got about the same enjoyment from the cheaper Bush Single Malt I got at same time.Slightly sherry -ish Irish with a tiny hint of peat?(smoke?)Actually a Teeling Single malt is the best bet at that budget

Yeah probably. I'm just over the border at the moment. Was hoping they would have the muff whiskey to try but alas my search continues.

Paddy is sweeter on first sip than Jameson but more burn on the finish... I guess thats the high grain content. Bit rough around the edges alright but not rotgut by any means.

And to followup...does the job in a hot whiskey. Rough edge gone but flavour hit comes through.
The 1 litre I got for 25e will find a home in hot whiskies, mulled dry cider punch etc

Lots of hate for Paddy here.

When I was younger I would have assumed that it was rough mainly due to price but I have a few friends that are fans and I have to say that once I tried it, I’m a fan too. It’s grand, soft and sweet. Not exactly the most refined but definitely not rough.

If I had a top 3 of whiskeys that go for 20 something euro, it’s there with Jameson and Powers. I’d take it over bushmills white, black bush and Tullamore dew if I’m being honest.

Id say its more soft than sweet.I did a more advanced project than killbillvolii a couple years ago where I tried to train myself to distinguish the four irish 'mainstays' like the old expert on an old RTE podcast/doc (he could even distinguish mixes of more than one they tried to trick him with )

Paddy is by far the most distinctive and thus easiest to call with the spearmint softness ,then the (sometimes)peaty (always)malt of Bush (white) then the peppery Powers and the bland(ish) bit of everything of Jamie

Since March? That's some serious going and some serious self control. Fair dues.

I'm just in from a couple in the Irishtown House. My word they were moreish. Best pints of.the year, though that's mostly cos I did dry January and the local hasn't opened since March. But they were mighty stouts tonight all the same.

Now after what seemed like the longest day in history I'm sitting down with some Bowmore and Cherry pie. Oh thank f**k!

Happy Christmas lads! Thanks for spending 2020 ruining my bank balance!

Just made myself a whiskey sour using the recipe from the Bushmills kit but with Makers Mark. Delicious stuff.

Do you have a recipe handy?

At that rate, might be worth considering The Sexton too. Currently €33 in Tesco. Single malt Bush in the bottle.

Just had a teeling small batch followed by a green spot... Have to say I prefer the teeling having heard so much about green spot

I missed the zoom call in the end, so decided to give the set to my father in law for Christmas. I'm looking forward to him making me cocktails now :D

I'd say yeah personally, adds a nice texture to the drink. Definitely not one for later on all right!

    Thanks!
May the great spirits of Paddy, Power & Jameson always warm your lips

Haven't had it or any Canadian whiskey for that matter. Let us know how it goes down. A nice little bonus present for you.

Lovely and sweet. Bang of vanilla from it. Very easy to tap away at, especially after the Bowmore (which was a lovely end to the day). Will have a couple more while I watch Sean Connery perfect his Russian accent.

Less control and more a combination of a new baby, me being designated driver and multiple lockdowns. Only other time we were out where I could have a drink the missus booked a lovely craft beer spot that didn't do Guinness. I made up for it last night though!

Whiskey Exchange have announced they are no longer shipping to addresses in the 26 counties due to uncertainty around brexit.

With the likes of parcel motel and similar services also gone the days of getting whiskey officially or unofficially from Britain are seemingly over.

That sucks, hopefully things will get sorted in due course.

    Opinions wanted!

One to give away and one to keep, Writers’s Tears Copper Pot and Teelings Small Batch?

    Both v nice.

Copper pot usually priced a little higher than Teelings SB which is often on offer at 35e.
