Didn't watch it, I didn't realise he was hosting it so to speak, just appearing in it. I would have an issue, so to speak, with folk who have an issue with Gaeilge not being spoken like somebody from Galway/Donegal/Kerry etc. One of my mother's teachers (from Cark) said to her, breaking into English (verboten) "You and your Doobalin accent, Deirdre", and she answered back "it's better than the Cark one anyway" in a Cark accent. Got sent to front of class where she drew an unflattering picture of said teacher on the blackboard. Letter got sent to her parents who couldn't read Irish :D

No I think you misinterpreted what I was trying to say. I honestly don’t care about whatever accent he’s applying to the language; it’s more that his Irish isn’t actually that good and certainly not good enough to be the host. All of the judging panel for example had vastly superior Irish, but they wouldn’t be a name like McDermott. If he was one of the judges/a “celebrity”/guest judge for example then with his far from fluent Irish that would be more palatable but I find it strange that given his lack of mastery of it that he was the host, esp. on TG4.

    Brexit is upon us.
    We’re being ravaged by Covid.
    Food shortages on the horizon.
    Lockdown imminent.

So, what is the nation hungry to discuss...........why, self-published bukes, of course.
