Isora race saturday. Long day but great weather. Some strange noises come from the back of the pier in Dun Laoghaire after dark

If you do enough miles, take enough photos, try for enough years, you still might not get lucky. But then again..... https://youtu.be/eQdTA_KHvjA

Jaysus, you got it all there!! Fabulous!!

I was lucky enough to see a family of humpbacks playing and feeding for a morning in Antarctica, a memory I'll always treasure.

    Wow, what an experience.

I've seen pilots in the Irish sea, plenty of dolphins on offshores, even had a big'un surface beside us on a round Ireland off the west coast! (it was bigger than the 40ft boat I was on).

They are always a pleasure and humbling experience to behold.

Decided to bring the SLR with us for a spin over to DL yesterday, not a whole lot of action other than the Puppeteers out of Howth racing...

Running East on the last evening before lockdown. Freezing cold but I did get the very last out of it before hauling out!

Fitted a new Fishfinder during lockdown and needed to launch and test it in case the boat was needed in the off season. Got a brief weather window despite a small craft warning and hauled it down and went out for an hour. Freezing cold and a lot of hassle so took a real effort. But I took the opportunity to do a sweep of outer Dunmanus bay as I hadn't seen any sign of common dolphins and reckoned they're all gone to Cork harbour.
Nothing as expected but biting cold and freezing spray. Then the sun came out and I was running downwind in front of a huge period ocean swell -pic - and all was well in the world.
Then only minutes from the pier....

The weather kicked back in with a vengeance an hour or so later but an unexpected bonus trip in the off season. If you get the chance....

ah, kenmare bay, love that spot, have a swim in it most septembers, although it's followed by a 85km cycle over healy pass and caha pass and a half marathon around kenmare (Lost sheep half ironman triathlon)

Managed to get out on May 1st for a first sail of the season, and it was glorious.

The sky at sea looked a lot more pleasant than on land...

Reached up as far as Taylors Rock Cardinal, and then close reached back to Malahide, 6.5-7kts..

That was one looooooooong, tricky race (sorry, training session!) yesterday!

I think only 4 or 5 of us stuck it out to the bitter end.

Was a long day. Think we gave up about 5 after getting around the 2nd virtal mark heading back towards kish and still had to motor 2.5 hours home.
