I've created a monster. Mixed a dash of Roe & Co. with a dash of Method & Madness single grain, over three ice cubes. I'm enjoying it far too much.

Did you use a straw to measure that out? :p

    ---

But also, what sort of ratios? Have both here, so will give that a bash.

It's distillate driven so they use mainly 2nd or 3rd fill bourbon barrels which have less of an impact on the spirit. They only use the heart of the distillate so the head and tail isn't used.

Greenspot is more cask driven. 1st fill bourbon barrels and sherry casks. Less about the distillate so the cuts are wider.

    Makes sense.
Presumably they reuse the tails (and maybe heads). But makes sense that being selective about cutting will narrow costs.

There's a gin in that bottles only the vapor that escapes during distillation. Takes 50 distillation runs to produce 1 bottle. Cost a few grand per bottle. Had a whiff once, but that was about it.

Look fwd to reading more of your thoughts by way of a blog. I’ve used some apps to track what i tasted like barrelled, Whizzky and Distiller. The last one is the best I’ve found.

Thanks. I did a count the other day and I have over 300 samples so this is the excuse I need to start going through them! First four reviews are done and will be Knappogue Castle 1951, Bushmills 2008 Muscatel, Talisker 10 and Teeling Blackpitts. I'll wait till I have a few more and I'll launch it in January.

Two big interests apart from reviews will be updates on new releases and I'll also do a monthly roundup of auction sites and trend prices etc.

I'll have to check those apps out. Although it's slowed down a bit recently there was so many tastings going on it was hard to keep with what was being consumed.

Yes I posted a while back the Roe & Co blends well... I went more for an 'upscaling' approach.

You may think this is sacrilege, sacrilicious or a long lost family reunion - on the assumption some of the Roe & Co stock comes from Bushmills - but... I am really liking a house blend medley of 2/3 Bushmills white to 1/3 Roe & Co

Sounds great Cazale, looking forward to reading it.

I just went by eye! :P Put the ice cubes into my glass, started to go for the Kilbeggan 8y/o, then realised it wasn't exactly what I wanted. Tried to add equal quantities of R&C and M&M after that. Enjoyed it more than I've enjoyed either on its own.

On the subject of whiskey mixers / cocktails... I'm not generally a fan of cocktails, but on holiday last year, I discovered the glorious "Rusty Nail"

    2 parts scotch
    1 part Drambuie
    Over ice.

I think any blended scotch will do. I used Teachers. Delicious!

Other alternatives... Smoky Nail (with Islay) or Rusty Bob (with Bourbon)

Apologies as it looks like it might be a local mispricing or store specific deal. Raging as I planned to get a couple for gifts but rob the Barry Crockett out of it for myself.

If you buy at 30.50 plus19.50 of other stuff (food or stuff like that) and have a 10 off 50 voucher, you get the pot still set for 24.40. If you buy 4, you can take 4 barry crocketts and give 3 presents of 4 remainders :D

Didn't have it in my local Dunnes. Pity, good value if you can get it at 23

Review of Busker Whiskey from the Royal Oak Distillery. I like this bit below:

Everything has its place in the world, and we sorely need to ground ourselves. I hope the pricing here brings some sense to what looks very much like a bubble. There’s a distinctly 2008, Celtic Tiger fin de siècle feeling to Irish whiskey right now, with relatively young spirit going for a minimum of 60 euro, 12 year olds going for 100+ and the sky is the limit for 16s, 18s, and don’t even think about 21s unless you own an oil field in Siberia

I saw the redbreast set at that price. Red breast 12, 15 and Lustau I think. Still good value but no Barry Crockett.

I saw the Middleton set at €30 which I still think is pretty good value.

My Redbreast Project Wingman bottle and feeder arrived today. Interesting and different gift, and a nice idea too. The feeder is quite sturdy.

Shelf is well stocked, and couldn't quite pick what I should add from the recent price drops. Already have a full Talisker 10 ready for when the current eone is empty, and Tesco had raised the ask to 35. I took the Cardhu 12 (really liked that last year) and the black barrel. Black barrel only because it has become something of an everyday one for me and it really is rather nice for 25 or 30 euro.

I think Black Barrell (at that reduced price) and Roe and Co are the new "bottom shelfers" for me. Absolutely fantastic stuff.

Just opened the Roe and Co I bought today. Lovely lovely whiskey for a late night revision session.

I must grab a Roe & Co before the offers finish. At 25, it can be Irish Coffee if needed, though from the comments here, perhaps it may be a nice go-to.

Just gave it a bash. Really changes the complexion of both neat. The combination is 'tarter' for want of a better adjective.

Will throw in some ice now and see. Very nice though. I think on my next go-around I might up the Roe and Co to add sweetness.

Such a nice easy "go to"

Sure you can get a litre of Powers for 25 in Tesco atm to use as your Irish Coffee whiskey.

Spent a few days drinking these by the pool in bali. Very delicious.

Anyone have any experience with the online tastings and would recommend them? Thinking this might be a nice gift for my brother's birthday on the 31st.

Do we know if this is supposed to be all stores or just the bigger dunne's?
