    Illegal, no. Rude, most certainly.

    This too shall pass.

You often think you need something in a service station anyway but it could be busy that you don't hang around! Incidentally, is this the service station in Ballybough in Dublin? I can understand that as those lights are a law onto themselves.

Nothing wrong with it. Drive on.

If you legally enter the forecourt of the gas station and legally exit the forecourt of the gas station it's hard to see what offence you could be charged with.

That's a bit of a challenge to any member of AGS witnessing your little excursion.

Maybe a roadside check of your documentation, road worthiness of your vehicle etc. etc. would make you think twice.

It still happens but it's usually busy so people are better off waiting for the lights.

Rathmines / Rathgar road junction notorious for it.

It's a douchebag thing to do, but not illegal.
There is a filling station here in Galway where it's rampant because douchebags try to skip ahead.
Instead of course they create yet another gridlock, but this time inside the filling station forecourt.

I think I know the one. Is it on a left turn kinda near salthill? Sorry my geography isn’t great

This one is the Sweeney Oil by Maldron Hotel. I'm sure there are more around the city.

Potentially it is trespass, but simple trespass isn't a crime.

If doing it as a means of skipping a queue, it could be construed as conduct likely to lead to a breach of the peace, which is a crime

    It can be unsafe.

Seems standard practice for Galway so:p It strikes me any time I'm up there that the standard of driving in Galway is particularly bad. Not that the standard of driving is exceptional in the country as a whole.

In Limerick at the end of the Childers road coming onto the Ballinacurra road the traffic lights used to stay red for an age. I seen quite a few cars used to flake through the Greenpark SC carpark to get out onto the Ballinacurra road quicker. The lights don't seem to stay red for as long these days and don't seem to see anyone taking the quick route.

And quite regularly exploited by squad cars; one nearly ran me down as I was leaving the shop to return to my car. No doubt it was not exceeding the speed limit but the driver paid no attention to the likelihood of people on foot!

    1. If heading northbound, you do realise you could have taken the previous turn onto Grosvenor Road?
    2. If heading westbound, it can be unsafe, as people come around the corner from the Garda Station with limited visibility.

Does anyone in Ireland use NSEW as directions?
It doesn't strike me as helpful.

Similar situation with lights at the Beaumont House, though there it is through the pub car park.

That's a very strange question/comment. How can it not be helpful? I use it all the time as it's clear and unambiguous.

    What would you prefer?

I always avoid red lights where possible. Not just with filling stations - another trick is to use a filter lane to turn left and then immediately turn there and take another left turn avoiding the obstacle (red light). No laws broken. Ingenuity being used. Most of the silly drivers are just jealous that they didn't think of it.

    What a pathetic attitude.

.....and I suppose you also hide in the toilet when it's your round in the pub?
