Apple MacBook Pro M1 - change my mind

Have had a MacBook Air for years and love its design and longevity. But I’m looking for something new in the coming year - I would be mostly using it for work but enjoy some casual gaming. A big factor from moving from apple is that all my work is Microsoft and I’d like to be able to choose a range of games for windows. Is there any smart windows Laptop that can match the new MacBook Pro for work and gaming? In and around the same budget

all depends what you need for what level of gaming.

m1 chip can't run bootcamp so that rules out games that are on windows but not mac

the m1 graphics capabilities won't match up to a mid-range discrete gpu card. down the line Apple may put their own dedicated gpu card in its laptops but that is a bit off most likely

I think the OP is looking for windows based suggestions.

Honestly, if I was in the market for an MBP and could possibly wait for M2 I would. Fairly safe bet that it'll shoot way ahead of M1.

I was highlighting the consequences of picking mac vs windows

i.e. won't have access to games that are not on mac (a fair few)

the m1 gpu power is not that strong so won't be able to run some new games and / or at really low settings

there are any number of windows gaming laptops that would meet his needs

now it's not as portable as the macbook but that's trade-off

the closest option would be the asus g14 which is light and more powerful gpu wise. at 1.6kg it's easily portable. metal build.
