I'd not find it overly attractive but for folk buying with a view to keeping the 4 year PCP might appeal. I view all PCPs as rentals essentially anyway TBH. I'm sort of surprised the GFMV wasn't a tad lower after 4 years.

I made an error above also.... It's an m sport not an SE the 4 year figures are based on.

How are BMW offering such attractive PCP deals?. I was pricing up a 2 series gran coupe yesterday and the monthly payment came in under 300 per month? I don't get it. Is the Gmfv in the high side at BMW? Or is it set up in such a way that after three years, there will be very little equity in the car and a much higher deposit will be required to change up?

BMW historically gave given a GMFV with little or no "equity". So your deposit and monthlys rent you a car for 3 years

How are BMW offering such attractive PCP deals?. I was pricing up a 2 series gran coupe yesterday .......

    48 Monthly Payments of €249.98
On the Road Cash Price €36,500
    Customer Deposit €10,555
    Cost of Credit €2,475.50
    Optional Final Payment €16,346.46
    Total amount payable €38,975.50

.......Finance based on 4 year PCP payment plan for 2 Series 218i Sport Auto

If the PCP seems really attractive monthly it's generally a chunky enough deposit. In the figure I pasted the deposit is €10,555 and the 48 payments combine to €12k.

Realistically it's €500/month depreciation if the GFMV is representative of the value after the 4 years.

Did you not get the deposit and GMFV amounts from them too when pricing? There is more to the cost of PCP than just the headline monthly figure.

Im liking the new bmw setup.
Its pretty clear that they are now going the zero equity route.
I think considering the way the bmw dealers are operating with piss poor trade in offers, this is as sensible a way as any for a customer to go. You buy in knowing there is zero equity and are not at the mercy of the dealer when returning.

I did it online. I took note of everything, deposit etc but when the monthly repayment came up something didn't feel right. As per the example posted above, I now realise I'd have to save the deposit again in order to get a new car at the end of the deal, there's little to no equity left to use towards deposit.

I was pricing superminis for my mother and puppies monthlies on them are around 250. Albeit with very small deposit. Its a little misleading by BMW to be even advertising those rates. Your deposit is defo gone.

On another note, I'm gone off the idea of changing my a6 for the new model even with the great trade in offer. Changing a 2 litre diesel for another 2 litre diesel which is more or less same car with a new interior just hasn't got my juices flowing.

Have a serious hankering now for the a6 phev but think its just too expensive at the moment. For a comparatively smallish cost to change I could get into a 330e or 530e 2018.

Whats the difference in range between the 2, when did the 530e get updated battery and when did the g20 330e come out? Moving so fast in electric and hybrid worlds i couldn't bring myself to buy too far back.

Herself said the new 2 GC was coming in cheaper PM than the 1 we got on PCP about 5 years ago according to instagram. Didn't look into the details but knew something wasn't quite the same. We had a healthy amount of equity left at the end, paid the balloon of 11k and sold privately for 16.5k. I wonder would their new set up make that situation easier?

And good to see you back. Thought you'd left us HJ.

Haha, I'm busted. Thanks for noticing, I'm impressed. Using my labradors name now instead of my own, which I also did once years ago when changing ownership instead of back taxing an e39 530i. Different labrador but same idea!

Deleted Instagram,Facebook, Twitter and boards account (almost LinkedIn but didn't because of work). Was having a real love hate relationship with my smartphone and the time I was spending/wasting on it. The others are still gone but I missed the chat on boards. Now back to spending money needlessly on cars...considering one trip back to BMW, will be my 7th if I do, for a couple of years while they still have a few cars I like the styling of.

You looked at any e class? There was a few e350 plug ins on done deal lately. They’re also a lot higher specced than the regular diesel ones too.

Stop that, I'm confused enough without introducing merc into the equation. Yeah worth looking at i suppose.

Now mark is advising us on YouTube rather than asking for advice.. He's part of the reason I want to buy new cars but can't make up my mind. His A6 plug in video threw me off the a6 diesel I was going to buy big time.

I should probably do the same, I spend a huge chunk of my day looking at a screen, then mindless scrolling in the evening. Funnily enough, I got a walkie talkie for work this week and it made life very easy, could leave my phone in my office when out and about.

A suggestion, the new 6 series are depreciating hard and having been in a 5 GT as a passenger and sat in a 6 in the dealers, they are a lovely 5 series/E class/A6 alternative. A 2 year old example could be good value and if you have a labrador then a practical thing too.

    A petrol one:

Or a diesel one with a proper engine:

I'd deleted my social accounts about three months ago. Would recommend, such a waste of time. Mindless scrolling as you say.

I dont do social media - always on here instead.

Don’t do social media either unless you count boards.

Being offered 2k less for my BMW by two VW dealers against a golf GTI. Looks like BMW offer is fair enough.

Practical cars but not pretty and will continue to depreciate heavily imo

I did the same a few years ago but went back on Instagram but don’t spend much time on it. Facebook and Twitter are cesspits and are terrible for mental health and misinformation. Instagram is ok as long as you know that no one looks like that in real life without photoshop.

I love those 6GT’s, I shouldn’t but they are amazing inside and so practical. If they continue to drop I might look at one in a year or two.

They don't even sell them now in RHD - not that I'm sad to see this, I just wish they'd cut a load of other junk in the line-up.

Interior is lovely in them but just look at them, and the idea of the car itself is so not what a supposedly sporting brand is meant to be about.

Anyway, perhaps I missed this, but carsfan2, why aren't you considering the previous 1 series if you're after a hot hatchback?

I'm probably in the minority in this, but I'm really not a fan of the new car. The old car had all the things that made a BMW different, and stand out from the crowd - rear wheel drive, 50:50 weight distribution, a manual gearbox as standard, and of course, a six cylinder engine if you wanted a go faster version. Now it's exactly the same as anything else out there (except its rivals still come with manual gearbox for greater driver involvement as standard, unlike the 1 series - and let's not forget, BMWs are supposed to be 'The Ultimate Driving Machine'), so why not buy a Golf or a Focus instead; cooking versions of Fords are laugh a mile to drive so one can only just imagine how much fun an ST version would be?

Even if auto is your thing, at least in the old 1er they got the brilliant ZF 8 speed lump; cars on the FWD platform use an Aisin box from Toyota.

Thanks for suggestion of 6GT but can't get over the looks. Would be practical but I'd go for the avant or touring, which I think are very smart, before them if I wanted that. Or even a big suv like x5 which I'm not particularly a fan of.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,834 ✭✭✭carsfan2

I like my creature comforts too much and could not live with the previous one series interior regardless of engine.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,398 ✭✭✭vintagevrs

I would tend to agree on the older one. It's still really modern and will have all mod cons that are needed really. Not trying to sound arsey, but what does the new 1 offer that the previous version doesnt? I had a lend of a newer BM for a while, and no doubt the screen resolution is higher and it probably has some extra tech in it but nothing I would notice or miss.

The 140i is going to be significantly cheaper too as you don't have to pay that brand new car depreciation.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,446 ✭✭✭Wailin

The new 1 series is not much of a looker, but neither was the old one. I think they look a bit dated now. They have the all important engine, 50/50 weight etc but what's the point if you can't actually benefit from it unless your on the track? You're not going to be going sideways down a b road if you want to keep driving.

Why bother with any fast car so?

I think some people (myself included if I’m honest) just ultimately want the new car, the latest tech, the most modern interior, the newest/latest model available. Especially if spending big coin.

That wasn't the point of my post. It was in response to people recommending the m140i over the m135i to carsfan. Day to day driving, the m135i is the better car. Loads of grip in the wet so much safer, more economical, modern interior, just as quick in the real world etc. Doesn't hold a candle to the m140i for the rear wheel drive handling, engine note etc. Personally I'd have the m140i, but I think we can agree that carsfan prefers his cars up to date with modern interiors.
