Thoughts on alt coins such as OCEAN & UBT?

There are over 1 million ETH deposited to the contract already if I'm reading it correctly, and over 25,000 validator deposits.

I don't have 32 ETH to stake myself, nor do I have the skillset to be a validator. Trying to figure out how I could put some ETH into it, but have it spread out. A validator can take a cut of the staking rewards, fair enough, but don't want to be tied up in one node that could go horribly wrong.

Kraken just announced a way to do that. They're also setting up an exchange between locked and unlocked ETH, so you can make your way in or out the locked coins at any time (at the prevailing rate of exchange between the two obviously)

I was hoping to avoid an exchange like that but do you know what, the sums I am putting in are not huge so fxck it. Makes my life easier.

I'll research their fees. Obviously no issue with them taking some of the staking rewards. That's fine. Interesting to see they are creating a secondary market.

Aye. My thoughts exactly. The rewards for staking ETH (vs the risk) are not high enough for my liking, so I ain't doing it for now. Interesting all the same. Will have a look to see how this develops.

ya I was intersted in the concept, but would just prefer to just use Celsius (or similar lender) to earn 5%, no lockup

    Same thoughts here.

If someone is Ok with handing their coins to a third party, I have to say I still don’t fully get the point of this type of exchange sponsored staking (I mean from a financial perspective; if someone does it because they are curious to try or want to support Ethereum it is a different story).

If I am not mistaken, the likes of Celsius or BlockFi are able to generate equivalent or better yields without a locking period, and I wouldn’t see the way they are doing it is significantly more risky. As a matter of fact, even if staking was to become more lucrative than their existing lending business, they could just decide to mix and match depending on current yields and do some staking on behalf of their depositors when it makes sense (of course they couldn’t stake it all as they would need liquidity to process withdrawal requests).

So does anyone have any coins in a Celsius wallet? Considering doing this with a small amount of ETH. It looks like they only have a phone app, which puts me off. And when I click on the Google Play icon on their website (see link below) it brings me straight to the Apple AppStore

Try it for yourself, unbelievable stuff. And to rule out any fluke / cache wrong on my PC, I tried it in two different browsers

    https://celsius.network/download-app/

Maybe I will give it a miss if they get this sort of basic stuff wrong...

Yes I have Celsius, not had it long but I'm liking it. I moved some BTC and ETH from Crypto.com earn over. The rates are decent without lock in period.

The link opens the app for me on Android.

IMO they are probably the most solid option for this type of service. Plus their own token (CEL) has rewarded early users *very* handsomely (up 2500% in the past year, and I think it isn’t just speculation but largely driven by their financial model). I have a rule not to disclose any of my holdings, but let’s just say that when I think about CEL it makes me smile :-) (although of course no one should expect a repeats in the next 12 months)

Their CEO Alex Mashinsky regularly gives interviews on crypto website and more traditional financial media if you want to get a feel for who’s heading the company. Pretty solid guy as far as I can tell, who is one of the inventors (and patent holders) of VoIP and seems to have a track record of creating successful companies.

Been using Celsius for around a year and all good so far.

Mt Gov decision is expected on Dec 15th. Potential for about 150-200K Bitcoin to be sold to repay creditors. There is a risk they will instantly sell on the market and tank the price.

I’m one of these MT.Gox creditors. I have 7 bitcoins locked up for years now.
I opted to get whatever is to be paid into my Kraken account in Bitcoin equivalent. I put in €4K at the time. I’d be happy with that but I’d say I’ll get approx €2k worth when it all settles.
I agree, there will be a lot of creditors selling but I won’t be selling as I’m long term minded.

A Euro stablecoin is being launched by a German bank: https://cointelegraph.com/news/euro-stablecoin-launched-on-stellar-by-one-of-europe-s-oldest-banks

Curious to see if this gains a large adoption.

It isn't Deutsche Bank so should be ok i.e. actually have the assets it claims to have.

Has MSTR caught anyone else's eye for investments after their BTC play? I see p/e earnings of almost 3k but it appears their move is a clever one.

I'd wait until just before the new year, given the recent trend.

That's some chunk of change for a company to gamble with if it's true.
