Garmin Edge 25 Question

Does anyone know if the Edge 25 battery can be changed by the user or does it have to be sent back to Garmin?

I have seen several conflicting accounts on various websites and cannot decide what is the (best) course of action to follow?

Does anyone here have any experience of replacing the battery etc. - any information would be greatly appreciated.

The unit is held togerther with 4 T5 torx screws. It's easy enough to open up. The thing is finding a suitable replacement battery. Ther link below has some suggestions for suitable batteries.

If it were me, I would repalce the battery myself, but I'm aware that not everyone is comfortable doing that sort of stuff

Looks like a CR2430 (easily available) is fine, OP in that thread says 3.15mm and those are 3mm. Or the site referenced has them:

Chances are if the cell you buy is decent you may end up with greater than 100% original battery life. 110mAh is listed as standard when the cells can exceed 200mAh.

Thanks for this cletus - My preference also would be to replace the battery myself if it were simply to remove and replace, but it appears that there is some soldering required and that would put me off, as I may damage the unit. I have read several posts on various sites, some refer to soldering and hot gluing etc., etc., others do not make any reference to either. Seems strange to me that it would be designed in such a manner as to require the battery to be soldered into place - makes it very user unfriendly from a maintenance perspective. Has anyone here replaced the battery in a Garmin Edge - what does it entail?

Thanks for this information ED E - as stated in the post above, am hesitant due to references to soldering or hot gluing required, when replacing the battery. Thanks again for your input.

I see one post where someone suggests that you might have to hot glue or solder the wires from the piezo buzzer.

Further down, another poster confirms that this is not the case. The black are red wires are running from the piezo back to the board.

I'd be very surprised if the job entailed anything more than removing and replacing the battery

No, no, no, not this one! Lithium batteries come in different flavours, some are rechargeable, others not!

The ones linked here are 3V non-rechargeables; for Garmin 25 you will need the 3.7V one:
