True gypsy brewers! Yeah, they bought the old Metalman brewkit (originally built for Biddy Early) and learned the ways of it in Metalman before moving it to north Dublin. Then they found out why brewing on a 25-year-old cobbled-together brewery isn't a great idea and abandoned it.

Biddy Early's was probably my first taste of Irish craft beer. Pretty good it was too. I remember we passed the brewery on the way home so we stopped and I bought a couple of cases. From what I recall they seemed surprised to have anyone stop and drop in. :)

    Did anyone buy the kit?

Not as far as I know. Last I heard it was still for sale to anyone who wants to set up a brewery, has never spoken to any Irish brewer and doesn't know about the internet.

The amount of wax being sold to craft brewers must be going through the roof...

Just got a few of the new Siren stouts from craft central. Carribean Chocolate Cake one is nice, annoyed I only bought one

Pays for itself with the extra couple of euros you can charge for a bottle because it's waxed.

The wax is a pain in the arse to get off most of the time. I'd pay extra for a bottle without it.

Rascals, The candyman, dark chocolate and salted caramel stout, should have been last night's offering from Mother Mac's but I opened the wrong one yesterday, does a good job of tasting pretty spot on to what they wanted, 1 is enough in a night.

Hopfully actually closed their Dublin brewery last year or thereabouts. They brewed at Lough Gill for a while but are now based at Metalman in Waterford again, where they started.

Metalman and Dungarvan were both trailblazers in Irish beer... it’s a real pity that both of them seem to have stagnated.

Still making beer that tastes like beer. I mean, who wants that?

    This.
A royal pain and even worse is a waxed swingtop!
A friend of mine sliced his finger and leg open, opening a waxed bottle!

I get how you can cut your finger but how'd he manage to cut his leg too??

Well I wasn't there, and I suspect drink was taken but I think he had the bottle wedged between his legs when the knife slipped.
    Had to call an ambulance!

Did the ambulance get it open?

On another note, does anyone know where to get Four Provinces Laidir? They don't seem to sell online. Lidl used to stock it an odd time. It's an absolutely beautiful stout, similar to the old Wrasslers.

There do sell online but I think it’s a more informal setup of email or phoning them. Check their facebook page.

Pretty much always in stock in SuperValu on Sundrive Road. I guess it doesn't travel.

I had forgot too that I’d seen it on beercloud.ie earlier in the week. Single cans and all.

As he tells it, he drank the beer while waiting for the ambulance.

Beer Cloud Advent Calendar day #5: Third Circle at Third Barrel Brewing in Dublin. 4.8% Pale Ale

Coming to you a bit earlier today because, em, it's Saturday. Very mild on the nose, this one, slightly sour. Visually, a dark, golden colour. Taste wise, a nice bite to it, no overpowering flavours. Gets the balance right between sweetness and sour. Another first for me.

Mother Mac's advent calendar produced White Hag's Dark Druid Chocolate Orange Pastry Stout yesterday. I'm after necking most of it in two gulps. Proper dessert.

Having one of those western herd homebrew ones. A saison. Nice too.

Usually like Saison, this is grand but nothing I'd buy.
I'm working late tomorrow, so just in case I opened tomorrows offering, looks like a lively one.

I really liked it. Better than the last few saisons I’ve bought.

Managed to get fatal Deviation on draught in Bonobo last night. Still haven't seen it in my local off licences though. Fear I may have missed it.
