Newcastle grab it late. A pity as neither side deserved a win. I think neither would get a point playing like that most nights.

That's a really poor pass by Jota and infuriating as I have him in FPL

Maupay has a lot of confidence for someone who's terrible.

Tried to give Allison the eyes and then missed the pen. Stonewaller pen as well

Not being able to hit the entire goal from a penalty or at least have the keeper save it is criminal.

Is that the third missed penalty against Liverpool this season?

The great penalty takers of our lifetime, Matt Le Tissier, Pauleta, Shearer, Neil Alexander. They all did the exact same thing when they struck the ball. They kept their eye on the football.

I don't understand this nonsense thing of staring the keeper out of it. There was a player for Dundalk on Thursday that did look at the ball once and put it 2 yards wide. It's arrogant and self indulgent

That's why you need a margin of error involved. There is no conclusive moment of when the ball leaves the foot from but they want to be particular on the line of the runner

Agreed. If they need the vertical lines then it isn’t a clear and obvious error. Give the goal.

They have essentially just swapped the margin from error from the attacking team to not benefiting them

If they want to stick with the exact line it might just be best to use the foot as the point to draw the line. Less guess work than finding the line of the shirt sleeve.

All they need to do is get rid of VAR completely and go back to 2018

It's been an awful idea, amazed at the amount of people who defend it. It was better before.

Yeh times way better when Henry was blatantly hand balling it against Ireland etc etc

They just need to tweak how they use VAR

I'd like to know why VAR used the right foot as the line, as opposed to the left foot or left shoulder.

It's hard to see from the one image what part of the defenders body is actually further back.

I disagree. I don't think it bring much to the sport. Still contentious decisions, still wrong ones, and a lot more confusion for fans and changes to how you celebrate and experience goals.

I actually haven't seen the Henry handball but that's for a different thread

How on earth have you not seen the Henry handball before?

But in all of these close offside decisions how many have VAR come out and said have been wrong?

I think someone had a list before

The good old days when Ireland could be screwed over by refs to lose out qualifying for Argentina 1978, Spain 1982 and South Africa 2010 with a mixture of legitimate goals ruled out, offside goals ruled in, free kicks that weren't and handballs?

    Great times, great times...

The VAR check only seems to focus on where the player is and not when the ball was kicked. An argument could also be made for that part of the play given how tight the margins are for the last man and attacker.

Liverpool look to have plucked another £80m player from the (relative) bargain bin.

They have been monitoring him for 4 years apparently, great signing.
