    I know now

I’m a mind of useless information, a really popular guest at dinner parties......well I was before they were made illegal!

The lowest point of the NPHET blame game on rising virus figures has to be the blaming of the dead and their funerals.

I really wonder what sort of people we have as doctors in Ireland.

    Sigh....

They aren't blaming the dead and their funerals. I'm sorry, that's just a stupid thing to say.

They pointed out that there has been clusters associated with funerals where people are gathering in large numbers and forgetting or disregarding the advice about limiting the spread of the virus.

They have to point this out because it is a problem, it has led to clusters of cases and older people, who are most at risk from virus, are going to be present, usually, at funerals and the wakes etc, etc that happen around funerals.

I can not understand the mentality of a lot of people who always want to lash out at NPHET and what they say, when all they are doing is trying to give the best advice they can from a public health perspective - and a lot of these same people have (a) not fully understood what NPHET have said in the first place and (b) have made no attempt to think about why NPHET is actually giving this advice. It honestly makes you despair.

Watching the Tonight Show, Billy Kelleher says the numbers arent where they thought they would be, why oh why do Matt Cooper and every other reporter/presenter for that matter let them away with these remarks while not addressing the numbers of health care workers testing positive.

New York had the equivalent for us of 1400 cases per day for the past week.

Seems a bit odd to close schools but keep bars + restaurants open til 10pm and allow private gatherings of up to 10 people.

The numbers aren't where they expected them to be - even if you perform the mental gymnastics of disregarding health care workers numbers and pretending they aren't somehow people who live in the community too.

Village Magazine reported in July that Irish healthcare workers accounted for 35% of cases.

Recently on this thread I saw the figure 23% quoted.

But hey they're in the community same as anyone else maybe they're going to shebeens after work or something.

Did you not hear that every single healthcare worker in Ireland lives with other healthcare workers?

It's amazing that anyone believed NPHET's models could accurately predict the rate decline in cases due to level 5 restrictions when they have been shown to be woefully inept at predicting rate of growth.

Nope but we do have 2 weeks to further dent numbers

So do you think we should continue with level 5 on 1st of December or ease restrictions?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,100 ✭✭✭BringBackMick

I have noticed a massive increase over last , probably just 5 days of people totally fed up with restrictions

I reckon there is no chance of buy-in if they attempt to extends these restrictions

People are close to breaking point

    I am in Dublin...

So it has pretty much been same regulations for 3 months now

I have straw polled and 8/10 will do what they want from 1 December ( be that going home or having family over etc.)

This looks nice, do you think if we get all of our kids to send a letter to Michael Martin instead of Santa that this might happen?

A viral pandemic is a force of nature... just like the weather.

Blaming the NPHET scientists for their forecasts, which some may not like, is the equivalent of blaming Met Eireann for the bad weather they accurately forecast.

It's playing the man not the ball... and some here seem to do little else.

Take out hcw and you're below 300 and closer to the target figure with still 2 weeks to go. Now I'm not naive enough to think it would zero either but its just that when politicians or experts rabbit off figures, presenters never seem to question them. Seems to be far greater breakdown of data available on here than what the presenters have at hand to question their guests.

Yes a lot of people are well and truly sick of restrictions

Restrictions certainly won't work without public buy in

Good luck to NPHET and the government trying to sell any extension of level 5 in December

I think we should continue until we have cases in at least high double digits and see where we are then, whether that's the 1st of December or the 10th of December. That's my unambiguous answer.

My ambiguous answer would be that, possibly, keeping level three restrictions in place from December 1st might be enough to keep a lid on things for a while. But that is a very strong might be. Level 2 doesn't seem to keep much of a lid on things if you're already at a situation of 200-300 cases a day to begin with and you're heading into a month of increased indoor congregation and socialising more so than any other month of the year. In doesn't take a genius to figure out where you'll be once again in a very, very short space of time.

He’s not wrong though, your posting style is skirting the edge of trolling at times.

If you truly think zero Covid is achievable here perhaps you could detail how that would be done?

What hope have we got lads?

    Joke

That man has an insane amount of qualifications in virology, a genius basically and we can't post

While we can post so called founded video's of GP Tony having a rant on Twitter

A man who wouldn't know a virus if it hit him on the head, knows as much about virolgy as I do and his physio sidekick Dr Glen, who's only experience with viruses is treating them with Calpol

I'm not trolling so stop your skirting around the rules.

The onus is not on me to solve this crisis. I know I've helped people understand some of the blindingly obvious things that were going to come to pass but alas I'm a Joe soap like yourself.

Hopefully the boys and girls on the big bucks will get us out of this. If they don't they they should probably prepare to give someone else a craic at it.

I'm sure the electorate will be tired by then anyway.

Your spot on. It will be 10 weeks since we could go to local restaurant or leave Dublin by Dec.

Might not seem like a big deal but people have had enough.

Level 3 is useless of its one we have had in Dublin.

Let's just open things up, put in safety measures + get on with it.

Sure if the schools are such safe places + we can seat within 1 m why is a restaurant or hotel any different?

The ignorance of what damage a Z C means is even more staggering.

The ignorance of thinking we'd have a vaccine by September.
