    What's crass about it?

Are you suggesting he's going to spend Christmas alone, in a bid to stop the spread of the virus?

Calling me crass, in a sentence that contains Tony Holohan's name :D Oh you have a very short memory

Any answer you get will basically amount to ‘restrict the things that have no impact on me’.

that's what a lot of answers end up being.

it's baffling how people's anger is directed towards the public health experts and not the people breaking guidelines.

Kermit speaks the truth and a cohort on here can't handle it.

I love Kermit. I want to have his tadpoles.

Did you hear about all those deaths in France, Italy and other countries that aren't Ireland. Rather upsetting isn't it, although not upsetting enough that I won't use those fatalities as leverage to keep banging the same drum every single day.

I'm not the one failing to understand cause and effect.

Some keep bringing up how well we are doing compared to the continent.

They stop short of saying why of course.

The reason is because of the mitigation measures in place which work to suppress the spread of the virus.

    It's not interpretation, it's reality.

so people are annoyed with lockdowns and NPHET. i can understand that, but I am still not hearing any alternatives. everytime i ask, i am given an answer that basically amounts to lockdowns with some pubs open thrown in occasionally.

I am annoyed that our guidelines are idealistic and don't take into account human behaviour. People will socialise. Instead of encouraging safe/safer ways of doing so, they've stuck their heads in the sand and pretended people are going to just continue to lock themselves away. That won't and isn't happening. So we've got 5km rules which mean I can't go for a hike, golf in a field is banned, they tried to ban takeaway pints instead of getting the gardai to clear large gatherings. 3 of us sitting in a park with pints is minimal danger, just clear the silly stuff.

So, with this, they've taken away all avenues of socialising, which just leads to people breaking the rules, often in more risky fashion.

So yes I disagree with what we've done. And I'm sure I'll get replies saying people are idiots for socialising, the government can't do anything to help them etc. etc. but if your plan is for our society to completely stop socialising, it is doomed for failure before it even begins. Taking the idealistic approach might give you some faux moral high ground, but it doesn't make it more effective.

I also ideologically disagree with this much government interference in our daily lives but that's for another debate.

Kermit will always be a legend. Spotted the Beast from the East 10 days out, King of Covid. You'll be just an unmemorable collection of 3 letters and 3 numbers.

The king is in the building. You all show respect. A living legend of online activity in Ireland.

Take-away pints is a convenient distraction from the reality that cases in nursing homes, care facilities are now the main driver of cases & deaths.
The HSE and government have failed to protect these people again.
Cases among the age groups certain people like to blame are down week on week.

The time has passed for an alternative. We are pissed that ICU capacity was not increased as a priority and contact tracing was left collapse, it's like they didn't expect the inevitable 2nd wave. I'm concerned that NPHET isn't made up of the right individuals, it's chaired by a GP and has one is infectious disease expert on it.

In fairness to Kermit, he predicted 8 of the last 2 waves.

Genuinely, help me out here...How is this crass?

nursing homes should be locked down tight by now. effectively a bubble type control philosophy where carers live permanently in centres or literally don't meet up with anyone. give them a ball of extra pay for it. serious level of PPE.

now whether that's NPHETs fault or HSE or HIQA i don't know. but it is unacceptable.

He predicted the second wave 8 times is what you're trying to say.

He just has it, and he's begrudged. Vast knowledge across a range of fields.

Maybe if the social media journalists took a 15 second clip from the inside of an under pressure care home or under staffed hospital ward we might get outrage in the correct direction.

RIP to those who have dies.

On the case number, good to see it go down a bit today but obviously day to day variance.

Obviously the pubs should never reopen, what if we end up like France and other hyperbolic nonsense.

What makes you think we are different to France, Austria, United Kingdom, Spain, Germany....?

You seem to believe we can walk on water.

Why is it you believe we are doing comparatively well?

Could it be anything to do with the mitigation measures in place in your considered opinion?

Today is the first day Ireland's 14 day average has increased since the day before the move to level 5 on October 22nd - from 414.4 cases per day to 417.5 cases per day (over the past 14 days).

That's where level 5 will stay at unless further action is taken.

I hear it's going to snow tomorrow. My inner voice declared that, therefore it's completely true.

Bertie if you think it's going to snow tomorrow you're in for disappointment. It's 16c today and temps will drop a little tmrw. You need to listen to the weather forecast more often.

Kermit analysed the SSW in the troposphere in February 2018 and correctly predicted where the polar vortex split would occur. What do you think of that Bertie? Genius can't be denied by mediocrity.

So, in an industry that are already crying out for staff, you want to make them give up any lives they had to live permanently there. I don't give a crap what the wages are, no one is signing up for that
