How do we calculate tax on gains from US based stocks

I'm looking to buy some stocks that are traded in USD. Tesla for example. How does tax work on buying us based stocks. Do we convert the USD to EUR based on the day we buy, and day we sell and pay capital gains on the difference?

Pretty much. You have an annual allowance of €1,270 on the chargeable gain from any disposal. Plenty of info here on the revenue site:
