I have a few quid to spend on a newer car. It would be used for city driving around 10k a year mileage. Would prefer a hatchback or something smaller. Currently have a fiesta.
I could stretch a bit more for something decent. I've looked at a few online low mileage, from 2010 and up and there are hundreds of cars. I went to see a Corsa in a garage over weekend, but on inspection it looked as though it had been in a fender bender and wasn't keen on a 1L.

Is it possible to get something decent around 7/8 years old for this price range?

Plenty of decent cars around at that price, you potentially should look at private sales too if you have a bit of knowledge of cars, look for cars sold by their owners and not part time dealers.

You should get an idea of 3 or 4 models of car you are interested in and look up the spec levels on them to see what's best to go for.

A Corsa is a step down from a Fiesta, I certainly wouldn't pay 5k to move from one to the other.

Plenty of Renault Clios within budget, they are a good little car:
