Bitterness is a bitch, isn't it.

Not really. Just putting a bit of balance to the whole thing. Actually have a bit of sympathy for ye at the back of it all

We don't need sympathy, we're a happy enough support.

Good to dig it out and I think we were the better team overall, but that midfield is going to get badly found out eventually. Kick outs were very dodgy again too, esp last 15 minutes or so.

RTE deciding to show the overpaid analysts in Thurles rather than Mayo lifting the cup.

Wouldn’t agree with that, thought he gave a lot of decisions to Galway

Surprised Mattie Ruane got MOTM, he was stink in the first half. I presume they didn’t give it to McLaughlin because of that foul

Shane Walsh MOTM IMO but Eoghan Mc Loughlin our standout player.

The black card obviously well deserved.

Thought kickouts were fine today bar the one error. We were always going to have to go long in the last 15 and that midfield just cant win enough ball.

I think this mayo team are meant for better pitches and drier weather . Will see how good they are in Croke parke .

It is mainly down to the midfield not being able to cleanly catch a ball between them.

Walsh wasn't even on top form today but was unmarkable at times. Two difficult frees at the end but both were poor attempts, took the gloss of his performance. McLoughlin was immense.

Absolutely. Can't wait to see Mullin, McLaughlin and Conroy on a proper hard surface.

Wonder will The Sunday Games lads tonight be complimenting Eoghan on his cynical side tonight? 😋

Have we any better options? Is Parsons able for it any more?

McLaughlin is a great runner and he was one of our top performers but he tends to run down blind alleys a bit too often for me. No doubt that'll change with experience.

Surprised with Ruane getting MOTM but then again, I thought we were poor throughout. Barrett was up there again for me, as was McLaughlin. Durcan went a bit quite after the yellow.

Galway aren't up to much really, bar a handful of very good players. They'll continue to do well in patches and on their day, those key players can win games by themselves... but won't be consistently at the business end of things until they strengthen around the team.

I don't mind Loftus in midfield as much as others seem. His distribution is a notch above other midfielders and I'm looking forward to seeing him in CP.

Zippy was lucky not to gift them the game on a couple of occasions. Not a good hunting ground for him lately.

I'd imagine they'll say, as with Sean Cavanagh back in the day, he did what he had to do for his team in the circumstances. The discussion will likely focus on rule changes to penalize such fouls effectively, as a black card (or a red really) is clearly no punishment in that situation.

What's the format from here in?

    1. Connacht Champ (Mayo) v Munster Champ (Winner of Cork v Tipp)
    2. Leinster Champ (Winner of Meath v Dublin) v Ulster Champ (Winner of Donegal v Cavan)

    3. Winner 1 v Winner 2

We don't really. It's a long time since Parsons really played. There was a time when we had great midfield options and it was an area of the pitch where we had an upper hand on most teams bar Dublin, but we've just gone very thin there and there doesn't seem to be much cover. Still relying on Aidan O'Shea to come out and do a job isn't going to cut it down the line imo.

Yep. Forgot Tipp were still in it...

You'd have to question what was the point of bringing in a clearly unfit Comer and getting him to play midfield.

Keith Higgins looked way off it too sadly.

Yeah he could have cost us twice there but no harm no foul.

Ponderous is the word for Zippy today. Totally not at the pitch of things at all.

Can’t agree with this at all. We’re in serious bother when teams press up on our kick outs and we don’t seem to have a plan to counter it.
I’m very surprised that both Galway and Roscommon have given us so many of our kickouts, huge managerial mistakes IMO.
Dublin will eat us alive on our own kick outs

The better team won overall, winning Connaught means it’s a good year. We’ve someways to go before we match the Mayo teams of the 2010s but making the right moves

I tend to agree. The lack of proper fielding in the middle is not helping at all, but there does tend to be panic stations any time a team presses. A problem going on a couple of years now and still no plan for dealing with it.

Excellent way to win the game going by the level of "oh this is the first time we have seen this" all over the forums and the usual lads appearing on our thread year after year offering no substance but hoping we will react..

Can't say I was happy with our performance. Ruane and McLaughs top games. Coc was kept very quite. The blanket defence hard to break down but we showed composure.

Shot selection and positional rotation weird at times.
Zippy lost for legs and tiktok didn't do anything when he came on.

Still you can only beat what is put in front of you and introduction of comer was a wasted sub.

Ref missed at least one red and that's what we have reacted to other years so even more delighted with how it was lost.

Walsh is quality though but should have scored at least one of those frees.
Both teams had a lot of wides.

Lads called it right on here re the red

What else can Clarke do but kick it long it there is a full press? Its the midfielders that cant win ball.
