5 Episodes gone. 2 Season pilot episodes and 4 problems of the week (incl E02)

Mysteries of the season so far: -
    1. Burn ~~ What/Where/How
    2. Music/Ryhme/Melody ~~ Bad Wolf Meme
    3. Terralysium and Gabrielle Burnham ~~ Does anyone care what happened to her? Trapped in the other timeline?
    4. Georgiou & S31 ~~ What is happening to her at present? And how to get her there ~~ Anyone buy 'Ketwolski' theory & Short Trek 'Calypso'?
    5. Adira ~~ What happened with her medical checkup/briefing?
    6. Detmer ~~ Health/PTSD ~~ Or other reason?

Hoping they don't over-complicate the season by adding more and try and resolve everything in the last 2/3 Hours of the season.

Was not sure to post this here or in Season Thread, if your posting theories replies maybe spoiler them, in case people don't want to read them.

On another note 'Spore Drive' is it just me that thought It was just the saucer section that rotated in the earlier season and not the whole ship?

    Michelle Yeoh really is brutal.

This song thing is going to be the key to everything and Burnham is going to be the one in the middle of it.

“The Burn” is already annoying me as I bet it was the Federation that caused it.

I thought Nhan leaving was handled very well. Now all they need to do is get rid of Micheal and Georgio who added nothing to this episode at all or any of the 4 episodes before it really.
True but what happened her in the corridor with Burnham.

Re Georgiou, the actress is fine but the writing is truly appalling. The sooner she disappears into her own show, the better.

So people can follow the actress there and watch anyway?

Has Georgiou had surgery for her eyes in the show? Cause SF command was hurting my eyes never mind a Terran

Forgot that she was Terran as well, how come her eyesight has never been an issue. Used as a plot point for season 1.
Are there really talks of Michelle Yeoh getting a spin off show? **** me.

In the pipeline but has not even begun filming yet ~~ covid.

Maybe they were able to come up with a better treatment once they knew she was Terran. The eyesight thing never seemed to be an issue for Terrans in any of the other franchise shows.

Much better episode, but then all the monologing started, Burnham being the centre again, and all the logical fallacies everyone has pointed out.

Bit disappointed that everything feels so small though - headquarters felt like the cloning facility on Kamino in star wars, and we only met one Admiral and Lieutenant, that's it. The who repository of organic seeds in the fed, one tiny ship and one family. Trill was a few people and you could walk from their capital to their sacred caves in the space of a nap from being stunned.

For a show called discovery, there is less discovering and more mystery boxing than JJ Abrahams could shake a stick at.

I didn't mind it and to be fair the episode had me looking forward to next week, but I don't think I enjoyed the episode, more like a task to be completed each week?

Just a small thing I guess, but anyone else a bit surprised at no mention of Vulcans thus far? Like, if you're looking for Starfleet or the United Federation of Planets, surely they'd have been worth checking in on at some point as one of the key founding members?

Also feels just a little odd that Starfleet seemed mostly human, with human-appearance holograms etc, despite Earth no longer being part of the Federation... would've been nice to see it more represented by the planets that are in the Federation.

Well the Federation has always been a "homo sapiens only club" (to quote Star Trek VI) ;)

Theres an episode coming up called Unification part III so all theories say Vulcans and Romulans

I won't be following her anyway, the writing for her character in particular has been the worst I've seen in any show and I don't even know why she's in this show, her character adds nothing imo bar some really hammy and cliche "I'm a villain trying to be good" schtick. Apologies if it feels like I'm dragging on the show. I think I'm going to take a break from the Trek forum because all the negative is affecting my own viewing (I've already added a poster to my ignore list) and I don't want to do the same for others. I am enjoying this show for the most part.

He had life long kidney problems, which led to his short height, which in turn helped to get him the role of the younger Nog. But despite two transplants he suffered kidney failure last year.

Spoiler tag that some people don't like seeing future episode titles.

I don't let forums/websites/(youtube reviews) effect my viewing, i form my own opinion on the episode etc, but like hearing other peoples views, because something may pop up that I overlooked or took a different interruption from.

I know what you mean by ignoring some posters (wonder if is the same). There is one youtube reviewer in my view point got things so drastically wrong, that I know not to watch anymore. An if I do it colors his viewpoint.

I didn't understand the nhan thing at all... Why did she need to stay?
Why did anyone need to stay?
And why on earth was the seed store so complicated!!

Thinking about it yesterday and other than a few characters we don't know anything about most of the bridge crew. I know Mr Bloody Homm better than them after 2.5 seasons, it's ridiculous really.

Oh well, The Burnham show rumbles on I guess, though she is the worst Vulcan since McCoy.

You mean... the "Black guy", the "Chinese guy" and the "African girl"? :D

Also, there's Ariam resurrected who is just shown doing a big "oh" face for few seconds in every episode.

    Yeah....they're all almost like a crowd. They're non-characters

Where are the hollodeck episodes !!!!

Where are the hollodeck episodes !!!!

3 seasons in and no sign of a period costume holodeck episode. Awful

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 21,354 ✭✭✭✭Stark

Their holodeck technology isn't up to the TNG standard for that. Though TOS got around that issue by having period costume planets :D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 9,453 ✭✭✭corkie

Discovery been from before TOS doesn't have Holodecks, even in TOS time there where still working out the Bugs. Even early TNG had still bugs to suit the story they where telling.

See Star Trek Continues first episode featuring a holotech. Probably a retcon of the tech here.

I correct my self know as the 'Rec Room' in TAS from 5 mins mark.

    Also early TNG: -

Oh I know that :) Was following up with a joke about how TOS happened to stumble on whole planets where everyone was stuck in some period from Earth's history in lieu of the "holodeck episode".

Curious of the significance of the youtube clip above. Looks like a pretty impressive demo of TNG-era holodeck capabilities to me? Most jarring part of that for me was Data failing to master a simple whistle tbh, when we know that his capabilities far exceeded the requirements for such.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 9,453 ✭✭✭corkie

^^^ It cut out just before they reached the limit of the deck and data threw a rock at the wall.

A holo generated rock should not have bounced of the wall?

Yes, I know discussion of the decks was just a joke!

It seems a safe bet that glasses guy is 31st century Section 31, or at least Starfleet intelligence. Which may support the idea of the S31 series remaining in the 31st century.

Did not notice if it like this in the earlier episodes, but Michelle Yeoh is a "Special Guest Star" rather than main cast ...

Am I the only one that would have preferred had their nod to Aron Eisenbergs passing, just been the class of ship being named after him. It stretches credulity that Nog left such a lasting impact on Starfleet that they are still naming ships after him a thousand years later and not after say Kirk or Picard.

This show doesn’t do subtle, it’s the writers thinking the audience is stupid. Take Burnham a strong female character. Hi we no that yet it constantly rammed down or throats which does noting for us or cause. We didn’t need reminding that Jane way, or Sisko were also as tough as they come. It as is there writing the script by numbers.

Who says they dont also have a Kirk and a Picard. Maybe the Nog has a Ferengi crew and they named the ship after the first ever Ferengi in Starfleet and we also dont know what Nog achieved after the war

The USS Nog is fine with me; plenty of things are named for those that were first. Or indeed, given things Aldrin, those that were second :pac: there's a USS Glen after all. Nog was probably, and remained, a significant celebrity given his race. I doubt the floodgates opened once he became captain either

Could also be that Nog went on the become one of Starfleet's most legendary captains, eclipsing Kirk or Picard.

Add onto that; maybe the adventures of the USS Nog were themselves the stuff of legend, and much like the Enterprise or Voyager, Starfleet always wanted a USS Nog in the fleet.

I enjoyed that, had a real classic star trek feel to it for the most part.

I actually hate Georgiou now. It's in the comic book supervillian realm now. "I am a human but I can blink my eyes at a precise frequency that will crash 31st century AI". Sorry, fvck right off.

The only way Georgiou's existence could make sense now is if she actually turns out to be a part of the temporal wars; an advanced android sent back in time to help Discovery accomplish its mission, programmed to believe that she's a former Terran emperor. Inside her is programmed a specific command to remain close to Burnham and protect her.

This is literally the only way her character makes any sense at all. And it would fit nicely with Mr Glasses getting inside her head and making her wonder why she's so devoted to Burnham.
