Another week and another call from this side of the border for Northern Ireland to harmonise with and apply the same restrictions we have in the South!

    But why should they?

All other regions of the UK are regionalised, with Scotland tackling the virus with its own measures (which are different to just across the border with the North of England), which in turn has different measures to Wales, which in turn has different measures to the South of England. Liverpool & Manchester have their own arrangements.

The swabs today are a disaster and seem to suggest this level of lockdown has already bottomed out at a much higher figure than expected.

Combined with NI's easing restrictions and it appears level 5 being removed on December 1st now looks far from a certainty.

Disaster ? How so. Community referrals for swabs down, GPs reporting a sharp decrease in demand. At least wait for the numbers before proclaiming disaster.

NI easing restrictions?? They haven't. Another week where they are now.

    Its one day

I know some people on here are in denial and believe that everyone, bar the odd loon, is keeping to the restrictions, but if you look around that's clearly not the case. Even if they don't change from level 5 in December most people are going to have a normal a Christmas as they possibly can regardless. There was never going to be the same level of compliance this time around.

If we are still at 300-500 cases a week on Dec 1st.

What will happen then? Extend lockdown or re open some business before christmas to make some earnings?

Are hospitals the new meat plants?

No. Meat plants were the new hospitals.

If and thats a big if that happens then yes I'd say level five will remain

Nothing in the data suggests that happening

This is a very good question. December the 1 is 2 and half weeks away.

I can't see the numbers dropping as low as what NHPET is hoping for - to below 100.

They said this lockdown is to bring the numbers down low to below 100 before the Christmas where they anticipate many meet ups and increasing contacts.

The numbers will just take off again when we open up again?

The restrictions are only restraining things.

Maintaining them might still not be enough to avoid a continental style situation.

But reducing them is not an option currently.

If we're at 300 to 500 something has gone very wrong. We can't read too much into one days numbers.

Dr. Nolan seems to think we're on track for 100 or less by Dec 1. That's still pretty high, but hopefully might be enough to allow all retail to open. At Level 3(ish) we've been able to keep cases relatively stable, so we know that's possible.

I just can't how it's possible to safely reopen indoor socialising locations however during the Christmas period. Hopefully we'll have a number of vaccines start arriving from January onwards, and they will start to turn the tide.

If we are still at those sort of figures it will be because healthcare or other large scale businesses have failed. It won't be because of the general public's wrong doing.

You should tell Nolan so because he said they’re very confident about hitting those numbers. Relax and trust the process.

Disastrous numbers the last few days. The half arsed lockdown isn't working.

How, we're about 800 cases a day less than 2-3 weeks ago.

Figures haven't even been released and people saying level 5 isn't working. Probably the same who said level 3 was all we needed.

Anyways with cases getting lower and lower, we could be back to where outbreaks are skewing the figures. There seems to be 3+ hospital outbreaks. The increase in positivity could be down to hcw's getting retested multiple times to get back to work quicker.
As we never get told the number of people tested, only the number of tests, it's hard to know.

Or more likely people who said schools were a major contributing factor and any lockdown which left schools open would never achieve the desired results.
