I have a pitch pine mantle that had been finished with a Danish oil. I would like to stain it with a darker finish. I have read that oiled wood can be re stained as long as you use an oil based stain. Does anyone know of a suitable product i could use?

Pitch pine has alternate soft and hard grain and the results could be very patchy. However if you want to try a small area you will find Rustins solvent stain in all the DIY stores. The labels are for guidance only - you could try a dark pine but of course different shades can be mixed together.
