Fitting a Record vise

I have a 52 1/2 Record vise lying in the shed which I want to fit
I'm wondering if anyone here has had experience of fitting these?
had a look at this evening and there are some reinforcing ribs on the underside of the vise which make it impossible to sit it flush against the underside of the bench to which it's being fitted - see photo below

and just want to double check I'm reading it right - it suggests I need to make up a block with cutouts for the ribs to place between the vise and underside of the bench?
Am I right?

Correct. You use the block to set the height of the vice in relation to the bench top. The cutouts are to allow the vice to sit flush to the side of the bench.

Its easier to search google when you know the terminology. Fitting a vice is known as setting a vice (American I think).
