But it wasn't. His arm was in front of his body, there was nothing behind Gomez's arm.

It's not really though... his arm was within his own silhouette, so if his arm wasn't there, the ball would have hit his chest.

The ball was also struck from closer to him.

Excellent first half, second half really poor.

    ..and Trump won the election.

If we count the legal rules that was a penalty, if we count the illegal rules they are trying to steal this game from us

Excellent first half, second half really poor.

Should be a rule that if a game is going really well, they skip half time. :)

The rain has definitely taking a bit of zip out of the ball. Good free pass s going short for both teams.

The whole thing has gotten rather sloppy.

More chance of a winner through a mistake rather than a moment if brilliance now.

    Kyle Walker is a liability

Good result for Liverpool, was hoping they would get hammered

City needed the win and slipped up

Enjoyable game overall even if the second half was limited

    That'll do nicely :)

Poor enough 2nd half, think Liverpool will be happier with the point.

Cake, and grief counseling, will be available at the conclusion of the test

When do you never hope for that?

Jesus eyebrows always make him look so sad and worried.

Arsenal v Villa looks like another great game on paper

De Bruyne should be commended for doing the honourable thing with the penalty.

    Keane doesn't like Kyle Walker

    Hilarious

Hes dead right though, not his biggest fan but we rarely hear English commentators/pundits criticise their international players.
    I was chuckling away :P

Great to see Leicester back top, really remarkable how they never fell away after their success.

I'm probably making this up, but after all the ridiculous handball decisions earlier on this season like the one for the Newcastle equaliser against Spurs, didn't the PL get permission from UEFA to allow them to give their own interpretation of the handball law??

I think it was more that the PL just made an arbitrary decision that they'd do their own thing.

I know there's an element of 'big bad fifa' in the media discussion - but it never really gets mentioned that for historic reasons, 4 of the 8 members of the committee that comes up with the rules are actually from the UK so are in a unique position to shape the game.

I watched the game on the world feed and they straight out agreed the Gomez incident was a penalty. I switch on sky for the post match coverage and there is uproar over the handball. They've gotten themselves into an echo chamber over at Sky. Which isn't new but it's affecting the game on the field.

They retweaked the hand balls because pundits and managers were losing their **** over it. They should have just kept it the way they had it at the start of the season and told defenders to adapt. It's too reactionary and there is too much flip flopping on the basis of football pundits disagreeing with everything.

    Not read the thread but

something that annoys me is that in the first 40 minutes of the City - Liverpool game had some top class attacking football and the analysis is choosing to focus on referee decisions rather than the football. .

Brilliant first half but that could never continue second half as both teams set up to stop that openness. Liverpool tired badly second half but City failed to create any good chance and no shot on target at all second half.

The real problem is that the penalty of ‘a penalty’ is far too harsh for many of the offences committed in the box. A chance at an almost certain goal for an incident that was never ever going to lead to a goal is just far too harsh. Maybe they need to go back to indirect free kicks for certain offences in the box. No easy solution but it’s a mess far too often at the moment.

They were on the brink of relegation the following season and have been in mid table obscurity ever since. Really only since Rodgers came in that the ship has steadied again.

Liverpool are so far ahead of everyone else its hard to quantify, possibly the best tean ever to play

They did, they fell away quite severely actually. It’s easy to forget they were in a relegation battle until Ranieri was sacked the season after they won the title, and at the same time playing in the Champions League. They were going nowhere under Shakespeare and Puel too.

It was only when Rodgers came in that they climbed back up the table and are looking a great side these days under his leadership. Not enough credit is given to him for their rise back up the Premier League ranks, and it’s their first season back in Europe since 2016/17 too.

Don't forget they fell away last season as well when it was easier get top 4 than not get it
