Regarding December 1st, what do you think is the likely outcome?
Everyone back to level 3, pubs to stay shut in Dublin?

They should open pubs, but possibly with restrictions on numbers per gathering. Not much wrong with 2/3/4 people meeting for a couple of drinks once they curb mass gatherings.

But do you think they will?

They have to open retail, if they havent done it before it (4 week review) at the minimum

Thought for the day: Plenty of people on here maintained that Level 3-Plus was working, and if given a bit more time, would have done the job. However, had it done so, they would have had to reward us by giving us back Level 2, right? But by dumping Level 5 on us when they did, have they not just ensured - when the numbers have dropped satisfactorily - that they now only have to give us Level 3 instead? As the mysterious MelbourneMan here says will happen - and with a chilling level of certainty - all the way through until next summer at least.

The videos of Dublin city from a few weeks ago, the people in the pubs didn't seem like a big issue... but the crowds of people out on the streets did. Will people drink outside in December? Any other year no... but I have a feeling it would be something "fun" to do this year

I predict level 3 with travel restrictions lifted.

I can't see indoor pubs or restaurants opening before a vaccination. It makes no sense to reopen indoor locations where people gather to socialise during a pandemic. There's been too much focus on distancing, but we know more now and ventilation is so important.

They will also want to avoid people packing into pubs for Christmas, and people thinking they have been given a licence to go mad for a month. Inevitably with people gathering we will probably see an uptick in cases in January.

If the leaks are anything to go by they seem to be hinting at level 2 now and perhaps 3 in Dublin.

Personally do I think pubs will open yeah but maybe not in Dublin still. Could well be wait to open them as part of L2 until maybe the 2nd week of Dec though or maybe not. It'll be the shops that'll be busier to start with anyway.

The suggestions that they remain closed until a vaccine just isn't feasible either, controlled settings should be allowed. The Gardaí have the powers now to close anywhere taking the p1ss, don't give them the power if you dont plan on letting them open.

Nobody's going to pack into anywhere. Its quite simple really, table service, distant tables, everything that was there when hospitality reopened in June. When the tables are booked up thats it we're full. The Gardaí have all the powers they need now in relation to licenced premises.

I know you were against them opening at the start but it happened and the idea that restaurants, pubs and just hospitality in general remains closed until a vaccine wont come to bare in my opinion. The leaks / hints of L2 have begun.

I actually agree that level 5 should not be eased sooner then planned but of the number of infections drops to less then ever it is expected then we should come out into a lower level than envisaged, level 2 perhaps

It would need to be part of it. Never realised how quickly one tires of being stopped at checkpoints up to 4 times a day!

I'm not sure why there's calls for an earlier end to L5 myself to be honest, I didn't agree with bouncing us into L5, L3 nationwide with enforcement wasn't given the time show what it could do and the numbers show it had an effect but anyway here we are we're in L5 and I think if we want the numbers as low as possible to get as long as possible out of it then just go for the full 6 weeks, could be the difference between being bounced back into L5 in Jan or not

I'm not "against" anything, the facts are that the virus super-spreads in indoor locations with poor ventilation where people gather.

We should stop pretending to pubs that they can re-open, you can't run a business when you have to spend money opening and closing every few weeks. Spend the money to bail out owners and employees, move things outdoors if possible.

And I can't believe some people are saying we should relax restrictions quickly, this is exactly what got us into the second lockdown mess.

It would need to be part of it if that's what happens although L2 is real evidence of L5 doing its job. Never realised how quickly one tires of being stopped at checkpoints by masked Gardai up to 4 times a day!

They mean nothing atm, we are 4 to 5 weeks off the end of current retrictions

Never said they did, but it shows you where the thinking is going at the moment and it'll be government that end up deciding.

A little over 3 weeks to go.

My wife works in a small pub and is hoping to be back to work in December, unlike previous years she is looking forward to working Christmas as she thinks it’s going to be a lot quieter and none of the 12 pubs ****e as that would not be feasible under level 2 restrictions.
They ran the pub strictly to the rules for the brief time they were open and they could see that people who had a table booked on a busy night would stay the night and not be going anywhere else

i genuinely hope so much that your wife is working in December but I highly doubt it. Nolan said today high risk indoor would not be happening. They have all the power unfortunately

If pubs are allowed open for drinks, some part of the population will absolutely go ahead with 12 pubs of Christmas. Make no mistake about that. It's wishful thinking to think some people will behave and 12 pubs won't occur this year due to the need to keep contacts low and social distancing measures. If pubs are allowed open, the 12 pubs will be on.

    Exactly

It's not like the government will go against NPHET or the government will be hounded by the media and opposition

NPHET have well decided what restrictions will be in December they just haven't said it yet

The public health team and the authorities know, give people an inch and they will take a mile. Unfortunately the pubs will probably remain closed due to the fear of people mishaving around the 12 pubs of Christmas aspect.
