Trump spent months telling his own voters not to use mail-in and to only show up in person etc. and in fairness he got a big turnout.

But to then feign shock that the overwhelming majority of mail-in votes cast were for your opponent who actively encouraged his voters to vote by mail is absolutely comical. I see the MAGA devotees online and on here are lapping it up though.

Yeah Republicans have been trying to 'fix' the mail vote for a while. Interesting thread here.

The reported count was 98% but its actually 86%.

Everyone assumed Trump couldn't close the gap given the reported count. However, this is what is transpiring on the ground.

Now it would still be big ask for Trump to close the gap, but it is possible.

AZ, PA looking like a narrow win path

I think we can all agree on one thing, turning up at a Polling station on the day and marking a piece of paper with pen or pencil will always be the best way to do things.
    It shouldn't be.

Postal voting should be reliable and non controversial.

It really doesn't help that people like Trump's mate louis Dejoy did his best to hobble the UPS, or states deciding to close huge numbers of polling places, especially in areas with more minorities

    E.g. https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2020/mar/02/texas-polling-sites-closures-voting

Trump is right. Why admit defeat. I know you could say that's wrong but I have met many a person in this world who refused to admit they were wrong.

Problem is that doesn't someone in the Trump camp have to advise the president to concede. Who is going to be that person and keep their job?!

You won’t be saying that when Bidens warmongering starts world war 3.

Biden hasn't even won yet and we've already seen claims that he'll:

    - start World War 3
    - introduce devastating policies that will destroy the economy whilst simultaneously being a lame duck and getting nothing down
    - die before inauguration :( while also resigning in the next 2 years to let Kamala take over
    - turn the United States into a Marxist socialist state
    - make the coronavirus go away while also making it worse

Fooking hell, he's going to be a busy man and all this while suffering from dementia! Some man in fairness.

Mississippi approve a new state flag (70%) that retires former Confederate battle symbol and vote strongly for Trump too.

Apparently North Dakota elected a Republican Trump supporter to the Senate. He died of covid in October.

    Voted Bigly for Trump.

I think what we have learned over the last 24 hours is that there is definitely a market for an Election Channel. Lots of fancy graphics, touch screen TVs, paths to victory, coalition possibilities. New elections every week, Slovenia, Paraguay and the Council Elections from Napal. I'd watch it.

It's hard to know what exactly is happening in Arizona. CNN haven't discussed it in at least a couple of hours. There's definitely a lot of uncertainty. Still though, Biden has a decent margin. It would be some performance if Trump caught up, I think unlikely but possible.

States where Trump won easily voting for $15 min-wage and legalising weed. A weird combination of voting for that Turnip and ostensibly liberal policies.
Mississippi approve a new state flag (70%) that retires former Confederate battle symbol and vote strongly for Trump too.

Oregon votes to legalise possession of all drugs. So, in a general sense, the US is eschewing failed right-wing policies while Trump's vote remains strong.

    This makes me nervous.

It should somewhat depending where the remaining vote is. The way it was called last night was weird which I said at the time. It's still a long shot obviously

Why do they keep calling biden the "vice president" - even weeks ago leading up to this.

The guardian is a very low standard organisation. I see they are back to begging for donations again.

Always divisive but never manage to stand out.

    Update from Trump campaign:

    They argue they will
    - Win Pennsylvania by 40k-ish votes
    - Win Arizona by 30k-ish votes
    - Nevada by 5k-10k

It's common practice to refer to form presidents and vice president's that way in the US.

It's a weird quirk of US politics, the title is retained even after office. So for example, Trump will still be referred to as President Trump for the rest of his life.

The latest plot twist comes from Arizona, which had reportedly counted 95%+ of its votes. NYT notes that "due to an error in an Edison Research data feed of results ... the actual estimate is that 86% of the vote has been counted."

This gives some credence to the Trump camp's argument in a call with reporters that it expects to pull ahead in Arizona, because most of the outstanding vote is in Trump-friendly territory.

If you read the article they have a point.
Facts to back it up...always handy

"On a local level, the changes can be stark. McLennan county, home to Waco, Texas, closed 44% of its polling places from 2012 to 2018, despite the fact that its population grew by more than 15,000 people during the same time period, with more than two-thirds of that growth coming from Black and Latinx residents".

My point is there is no point moaning about mail in ballots when people are almost rail roaded into using them due to a lack of polling places.

No comment on the other link? Or on louis de joy?

I have no issue with Trump not conceding , just as I don't with Biden.

It isn't over until all valid votes are counted.

The Problem I have with Trump is his outright lies about Fraud and "The Democrats stealing it" crap..

Maybe the democrats were just making up the stories about the big bad racist Trump voting monsters, surely you were smart enough to realise Trump probably wasnt a racist and Joe probably didnt touch kids.

    Surely.

The votes still to be counted in the dem friendly counties will swamp the numbers from the rep ones. There is one county at only 62% counted, but that is only a total of 20k votes, the remaining votes in the county with 86% still to count and 1.5 million already counted means it barely registers.

Might make a big red mark on the map in terms of land mass, but land doesn't vote, people do.

It's a weird thing they do in the US.

Everyone keeps their titles - So Carter , Clinton, Bush and Obama will always be called President etc.

    They do it for everything

See how they still call Tommy Tuberville "Coach Tuberville" even though he no longer coaches..
