Think Cillian was going for goal there

Welcome to IC winter football. Pure slobbering.

Poor picture quality for me too, making the whole thing look even more dismal

Would these kind of conditions and heavy pitches potentially help Mayo against the likes of Dublin, Kerry etc.?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,622 ✭✭✭happyoutscan

Pitch in Ballybofey looks worse. Awful conditions.

Not if we play like this.

Absolutely not . The opposite infact .

    Great goal

    Think Loftus is playing well

Mayo are a fast moving team. They aren't looking to try and drag teams down. Bad conditions mitigate against us.

Won a very good breaking ball from the kickout which led to the goal.

Badly needed goal from the excellent Cillian.

Here's hoping they can cut loose.

Not overly impressive but the weather is a great leveller vis a vis teams of different standards.

We are so ****ing soft at the back.

Don’t think we’ve enough tight backs.

Keegan is way off pace, I think Mullins is better going forward. McLaughlin similar.
Our No. 6, whoever plays there, doesn’t concentrate on man marking.
That leaves Durcan and Coen. Without a sweeper that’s not enough

Back in the day we could rely on Higgins, Caff, Boulder, Keegan and Barrett to all do their job man on man. That’s no longer the case and they need more protection

Aidan seems to have learned the mark rules in the last week

    Cillian a shining light today.

    We learned nothing new today
But it might help some supporters how important he is
He has never looked fitter either . I wonder was he even held back last weekend given the possible run of 3 games in 3 weeks

    I think he was.

    Job done
    No injuries

Nothing learned really except a lot of the young lads have a way to go yet bar Mullin and maybe Conroy

    Exactly that reason .

I don’t think Mullin is as good as is being made out. I think he can be but the three games I’ve seen have told me he is not tight enough.

That’s alright when it’s a Kilmeena forward you’ve to mark but when you’re marking IC forwards I don’t think it’s good enough but I’m sure he’ll learn

Likewise nothing I’ve seen from Eoin McLaughlin tells me he’s good enough.

Ryan O’D, Brian Walsh and Jordan footballers all look like nice footballers but not really good enough to have us really competing. All are young though

Thought Keegan was much better in the second half, as was Durcan.
Was impressed with Loftus at midfield

    Cillian obviously MOTM, outstanding

Mullin is a halfback. Which position yet is to be decided.

Flynn doesn't have the temperament or IMO the aptitude for IC football.

Ryan is too small for starting but when the sod is dry and the game open he will be a serious second half option.

McLaughlan will be a serious in operator yet. You have to remember he was a serious cyclist up to two years ago.

I wouldn’t write any of them off but I don’t see any of them as being ready for start in Championship. You might get away with one of them with experienced lads round them

I'll hold my hands up, Cillian was brilliant today, still maintain he could go well at CHF, kicked a couple of excellent 45s. Conditions sure as hell didn't suit the lighter players anyways.

This nonsense of AOS at FF has to stop, He's a midfielder, an area where we are really struggling, even against Leitrim. TBH, conditions didn't suit but I thought he was fairly awful today regrardless, has missed opportunities from a couple of marks he's taken in the last few games and is not a natural scorer, which is a full forwards no.1 duty. If D Coen had as bad a game as him he would have got the curly finger at HT you can be sure of it. Flynn not good enough at this level I'm afraid, we've much better options, Boland seems to have disappeared altogether and presume Moran and O'Hora were injured. Carr did ok when he came on and O'Donoghue got on a lot of ball the first half.

Wouldn't be overly confident of us taking the Rossies with how our midfield in particular are performing, move AOS back to his natural position and we can break even at the very least there, I think one of Carr/Coen will start in full forward line the next day.

    I'll dissent re Oisin Mullin.

    He's loose ATM but inexperienced.

Obviously wasted in the full back line but where needs are greatest....

The mystery re Eoin O Donoghue continues.

Ryan is quite a small lad but extremely creative. The winter conditions are markedly against him but when things open up in the second half.

Agree with wirelessdude1 re Eoin Mc Loughlin.

I have a real fondness for James Carr.He has that X factor,so direct even if he does sometimes take the wrong option ( that long distant point attempt with better options inside ).I admired his self belief he demonstrated in taking it on when others shift the responsibilty elsewhere.

TBF it was an uninspiring performance even whilst taking account of the awful conditions.

Players won't need me telling them that they will need to up performance wise it if we are beat Roscommon.

I think Carr is definitely fit to start, think he’s an animal

Thought Flynn did fairly well. Won a number of kickouts and always looks to kick the ball forward. I'd worry about his discipline in a tight game next week however.

In conditions like today, the most skillful players will come to the fore so no surprise Cillian stood out. The likes of Eoghan McLaughlin need a hard ground to carry the ball forward without losing his footing.

At least the surface in the Hyde will be much better even though the wind and rain is here to stay.

I thought O'Shea played very well, his two quick offloads in the second half should have resulted in two goals.

Why is it that almost all Mayo supporters are loath to give any credit to Stephen Coen. He was very good today as he usually is but never gets a mention. Maybe in time we will begin to appreciate the work he puts in, like tracking runs and cutting out options for the opposite team. Well played again Stephen Coen!

Every team needs the worker bees. People only miss the likes of Seamie and Doc when they aren't there. They do the basics so well and unseen.
