Trump’s War: is it time to plan to take evacuees?

WITHOUT GETTING INTO THE POLITICS OF THE SITUATION(including moderating the names you use to describe either side of belligerents), I think it’d be prudent to start talking about how we get our loved ones out of the United States in the case that a form of civil war breaks out.

As you guys are all up on survival, I wonder would you have any thoughts on what they can do to get safe, and what we can do to help them.

  • Why is it Trumps war? Bidens Coup more like. He can ask his protesters and looters to stand down at any moment.

If Trump wins the election he will not accept defeat just like Hilary didnt. Most people and the army and police should follow democracy. They will crush the protests once they have the full backing of the electorate.

If you want to bring your family home send them the price of a flight and follow covid isolation guidelines, if you want law and order tell them to vote Trump, if you want people rioting whenever somebody who facebook deems guilty is not arrested or whenever somebody who facebook deems not guilty is arrested vote for Joe.

The army and the police will follow democracy the rest is just lads with rocks against the most armed police force and army in the world.

  • Why is it Trumps war? Bidens Coup politic politic....

The first sentence. You literally ignored the first sentence.

I regret starting this thread. I wanted to talk about the logistics of how survival would work in a “US goes dangerous and needs to be escaped from by non-US citizens” scenario.

Mods, I’m reporting broke phone’s post and asking to lock this. My apologies.

  • the US is big so location is important. Living out in the country in montana? just get enough food and last out the winter. Downtown Washinton DC? have bugout bag ready at all times!

  • Not to be glib about an awful situation, but......called it. We’re the closest we’ve ever been to an insurrection breaking out in the United States.

Do I think it’s the most likely outcome? No, the steam seems to have gone from a lot of people’s drive once the Capitol was breached. It’s unlikely to be needed, but consideration of the extraction of our loved ones should things get no-go in any given area of the United States needs to be done, if only as a thought exercise...

Difficulties? Many. We’re in the midst of a third Covid wave, which means transport across the ocean is a no-go unless things go far south enough to require repatriations. Added to that would be the opposition to such repatriations and the requirement for 14 day quarantine if every arrival (while the vaccination program is underway in the US, you can bet that if the situation worsens then that would be one of the first to go.)

Far more likely is that certain States become safer havens from which our consulate would operate. Even if the absolute non-nuclear worst were to happen, it’s unlikely that the entire United States becomes an unsafe place all at once. It’d be about getting our people to safer havens, which are likely to be cities away from the dangerous spots.

Ans were Irish people to find themselves in a dangerous spot, we’d be left relatively untouched. We would most likely be able to travel reasonably freely to safety where as someone of a different colour wouldn’t.

Sheesh, you called it to the letter.

Yeah, no. During any sort of civil unrest your country of origin will not get you a free pass for travel. The Irish are concentrated in cities and urban areas for the most part, and so the worst location for civil unrest. Paddy will not have it any easier than John or Jane USA.

    Also,
We’re the closest we’ve ever been to an insurrection breaking out in the United States.
Absolutely not, not even close to any form of insurrection breaking out.

A minority of a minority gained almost unrestricted access to the Capital building, no guns were carried (AFAIK), ironically the 2A supporters are often the best informed about local gun laws, and it turned into a mob making trouble, but not on the level CNN would have you believe. They were a nasty bunch of individuals who were opportunistic and with a sense of bravado gained remarkably free access to the centre of US democracy. A few hours later the local LE had chased them out and everyone went home. Their behaviour was a disgrace and many Trump supporters were outraged by their actions, clearly evident on US forums.

Of more concerns for the Irish in America are the devastating wildfires that are now becoming a frequent occurrence in California and other places and the increased volatility of weather events due to climate change etc.
