Ridgeback Comet Mens Bike

Hi Folks

1st time poster in the Cycling forum, looking for some feedback on this bike.

I'm looking at max budget of about €600, can push to €700 max . A friend recommended this bike.

I currently have a TREK hybrid which is 10 years old, want to trade up.

Will be using it to cycle to work in the city centre.

Im 6ft tall so I reckon the 19 inch frame?.

6ft would be the very upper end for a 19 inch frame I'd imagine?

I'd personally look at what Trek have for 600, and look at Giant and Cube also.

Also I was in Halfords recently and they had one of the 2021 Boardmans on display. Looked great, stem/cockpit like you'd see on a modern roadbike and hydraulic discs €590. The others I mentioned would have similar specs for the same or not much more money.

EDIT: Just noticed that Ridgeback you linked to has grip shifters on a 2021 model bike, definitely not an upgrade to what you have I'd imagine.

I would definitely look at something else, the Ridgeback is a ‘supermarket’ bike, low end parts, heavy and ugly as sin. They’re mass made and sold to numerous companies who put their own stickers on them.

The Boardman is a much higher spec bike with all round better parts and disc brakes (albeit cable operated) and looks the part.

I would fully agree with Enfilade. The Boardman is miles ahead of the Ridgeback, definitly worth the extra €100ish outlay. Very reliable Shimano drivetrain and hydraulic disc brakes. I think you will struggle to find better in your budget.

I could not get a Boardman from Halfords, none in stock plus Brexit.

So I bought a FELT X70 from Little Sport in Fairview.

€699, large frame. Nice bike
