The system is not struggling because of the admittedly poor application system. They'll have no shortage of applicants who DO actually have a LC. Nothing to do with the moaners who rang in to complain about it on LL today.

Im going to have to disagree with you there.

Ive done jobs requiring security clearance that didn't want my LC results.

Also I've started filling out long winded application forms which then ask for a CV too, and unless i needed the job, i cancelled it because it shows a level of disorganisation I don't want to work in.

On a very trivial note got my official Christmas cruise cancellation email just now :( ; however apart from a full refund on offer I have the option of them keeping the money and adding 10% credit into it for a cruise within next two years or when a COVID situation allows cruising again. :)

That's better than having it in any bank! Plus I get full double loyalty bonus points which means an extra big discount! Think I will book a few cruises as a means of savings!

Assuming they don't go into liquidation in the meantime.

How is the poor crathur going to get her "wages" on payday jaysis, if she and the kids are in 14 day quarantine. She must have it paid into the bank otherwise the remote control and butter delivery is the least of her worries. Crackpot stuff.

All she had to do was contact Vincent de Paul, they would be more than happy to help her with these practical little things. Why can't Duffy remind callers about V de P on occasion. They will help anybody genuine, but of course somebody I know in a senior role (a retired senior detective) in the organisation in England told me of quite an incidence of cheats which they have to filter out of wasting their resources. There was a case of somebody using donations from a number of V de P locations in northern England and taking family on top luxury holiday with it.

Silversea, who also own Royal Caribbean as well as a number of other major lines. Monaco based company, world's largest owner of cruise ships, very low risk of losing all my money. I had originally explored Galápagos with them and got onto the Venetian Society loyalty program with them. They are all-inclusive and have nice understated luxury and educational discussions on board in lieu of bingo an dat.

Well known that SVP is being taken advantage of.

Don’t usually agree with him, but Ian O’Doherty wrote article about it years ago

Some people just feel they are entitled, they know nothing else

On another note, I remember a few years ago on Liveline, some scanger ringing from an airport in Spain giving out that SHE didn’t have nappies or some such for her baby, despite having everything else, some other caller out there ended up sorting out some for her

The question is, why are these selfish loud morons put on, am I right in thinking the producer/researcher is deliberately showing them up, trolling us or genuinely feels this is a real problem, a national one at that?

No balance or questions at all though

Worth a listen back to today's show?

He's quite likely to go for that line if he did cruise, considering he likes the understated luxury of Inis Meáin, or maybe his missus is the leader in that kind of taste. The kind of voyage where you sit quietly reading a geography book, attending a talk on the next port of call and it's history, enjoy a cocktail made from the herbs of the countries the ship voyages through, with on-board scientists, historians etc. The food served will be from the ingredients brought on board at the ports and the local food rather than international turkey sausages. You will not get glitter balls or Elvis impressionists. You know you are voyaging on a ship and you are unlikely to meet Mrs Browinz Boy.

It wasn't depressing like yesterday, that talk of abandoned nursing home really got me down, so it was more a boring chat today with a matter of National important raised at 14.55.

The loud & entitled & chatterers & non-self-conscious are the ones who are actually willing to come on, so by default they are top in the queue. Those with an element of drama in their lives (cancer, death) will always be encouraged on and to open up as Joe thinks he is good at dealing with misery and finds it irresistible. Items that are of real national urgency and interest will be allowed on if they potentially enable Joe to be seen as a hero, but may take a back seat if Joe hasn't yet taken its genuine significance on board, and he can be slow to do that.

Listening back now callers, unbelievable that yesterday's topic was how incredibly devestating an outbreak in a nursing home can be.

Followed by a person from a Covid hot-spot who wants special permission to visit a nursing home. Incredible.

I wouldn't give VdeP or whatever they are calling themselves now a cent because of some of the things I have witnessed

Would it be too much hassle for them to ask for a bank or credit union statement before they start handing out dunnes vouchers and Christmas hampers?

Shameless toerags just consider it a bonus they certainly don't need or deserve it

The people who get into trouble and really need it would be too proud to lift the phone

The flight of the skies cruise ship pulls into the bay of biscay.
Henre observes the pale dappled sunrise as the beautiful city emerges.
Quiet, serere and peaceful the water sips along the side of the shore.
He thinks about his favourite guest Mr joesheph.
An elegant man, an artist and a history buff.
As henre ponders life he is elated to be the chief waiter for Mr joesph tonight.
He closes his eyes and thinks of his top three wines he will recommend.
1975 Chateaux de Pape, a 1995 noir or maybe a 2000 resling from Germany.

    11PM

Henre throws his hat on the bed in his quarters...
what's wrong pretty says Ella his sweedish squeeze.
that fking Joe duffy Henry rages...
    Ella what happened.
Henre his face red clotted and bulging said he ordered Blue nun that's what is wrong.... oaf inculte he mutters

Lucky you. The AA renewed my travel ins. last March. I expressly told them not to last year as I like to shop around. I mean I’m going nowhere this year. When they reversed the payment they took a payment for doing so. Won’t be going back to them. Why are firms so greedy and shortsighted. Then again they now have shareholders I suppose.

A golf mate of mine was remodelling his kitchen. He offered the white goods (which were very recent but didn’t suit the kitchen) to the local v de p. The v de p person laughed at him telling him they the “clients” only accepted new white goods. My friend had no problem selling them online for decent cash. Lesson learned.

During the Post Office strike years ago the v. De p were given charge of paying oap pensions. It was widely alleged , as Janis Ian sang
“payments out exceeded receipts in “ or words to that effect. Ie the payment stubs did not match the amounts paid out. It would have been a political disaster to peruse at the time. Just sayin.

My own parents volunteered with V de P (that's how they met) in the 1950s, when there was genuine poverty and less state supports, when food cost a fortune. Nowadays poverty is a relative thing, and the "poor" often are not prepared to make the personal sacrifices and self-denial that my own parents did most of their middle-class lives to put food on the table. My mother never went to a hairdresser but was always beautiful and had learned how to manage and cut her own hair with aplomb. My parents learned how to do stuff themselves, be self-resourceful enough. People will not do that now.

Liveline Charity Bingo my donation has been sent to the Donkey Sanctuary.

If ButtersSuki goes Live on air on Liveline before Christmas (under a pseudonym) I vow to give €100 to his West Highland Terrier Rescue!

What was total? Will try and make the most of the matched donation programme from work and would be interest in participating in a festive edition in a few weeks if anybody else is.

It was merely €15. I put in something extra and bought 6 felt donkey tree decorations from them, handmade in Nepal (a country whose only industries are kind of cottage ones) to give as token presents to my neighbours who exchange tiny gifts at Christmas etc.
