Chromebook dropping internet connection

Apologies if this is in the wrong place.

I have a HP Chromebook and have been using it a lot recently now. It constantly has internet connection issues, the signal is always dropping regardless of time of day, location etc.

Other laptops in use at the same time work fine, internet in general is fine. I've heard that this is a problem with the Chromebook, any ideas how to sort it out?

for 15 euro it's possibly worth getting one of these (look for dual band)

Pardon my ignorance but what exactly does that do?

it replaces the wifi card inside the laptop so you now use the plugin usb wifi adaptor / dongle to pick up the wifi

(disable the existing internal card in settings)

but chromebooks are a little more finnicky than windows for plugging in/ recognising new devices so it's not 100% guaranteed to work.

but if it doesn't you could hopefully bring it back saying it didn't work.

I did some research and you'd be better off getting a usb wifi dongle with a ralink chipset as that's supported in chrome.

this only connnects on 2.4 Ghz wifi though, not 5 Ghz (two different frequencies that routers transmit at although if it's an old router it's probably 2.4 Ghz and if a newer one probably dual-band both so should work)

probably will have to use amazon as not available in Ireland

Would this work with a Windows 10 HP Pavilion? Having the same issue and it's driving me mad. Connects to wifi at home no problem, but constantly dropping connection on any other network. Troubleshooting repairs it but it drops again after a few minutes.
