See how many noise complaints you can get in a single day, then try to beat it.
Shout "I'm guna do it!" at some point.
Sing Eiffel 65s "I'm Blue" as many times as you can.
Do morse code knocks on the walls. Keep asking the neighbours "did they get it, did they get it, did they get the morse code?"
Watch porn at full volume. Ask for more loo roll.
Wake up in the middle of the night and exclaim "those women were in the nip!"
When interacting with security guys, Answer all questions with questions.
Tell them you've found a hair in the bed that's not yours and demand a new room.

Oh and just have fun with it.

Mke sure there's a good quality chair, like an office chair in the room, you don't want to spend 2 weeks on a couch or lying on the bed.

As above, routine is important. Book an appointment with a physio or trainer before you go to learn a routine and stick to it. Two weeks is enough to get you hooked on some exercises.

If you're interested in learning a language, then this would be an ideal time to immerse yourself in the language. Intensive lessons, looking at kids shows on TV and reading books in that language, or watching films with substitles are all good ways to start.

    South East Asia
Duolingo. Learn a bit of the language; it may come in handy.

I see a lot of people suggesting VPNs. Please look into the laws of the country that you're in; in some (African) countries, use of VPNs are banned with jailtime being the punishment.

Depends on how corrupt the country is, your large games console may go "missing", so would advise an inexpensive tablet that you can play games on, etc.

You don't become a billionaire by paying for stuff. He pirates it now.

Sounds like Vietnam maybe, (or Brunei). You might even be stating in the Intercontinental down the road from me, where other people getting the two-week five-star treatment have been staying. It's grand apparently.

Language apps would be good. Daily online Skype lessons with a local would be better. Human interaction and plenty of time to study between lessons. Nice to leave your two weeks with a better handle on the language.

I look forward to the inevitable video of the OP, completely ripped, gently playing a mandolin while giving a review of all 9 star wars films in Korean

I think they might have again for a little bit but for the last few months there, and up till last week, some have been getting in under special approval. People like OP.

Bring a USB HUB, hotel rooms usually lack wall plugs where you want them.

I'd be doing everything I could now to ensure you get the best hotel, if work are booking it, they may just use the same hotel all the time for this location, but is there a better hotel in the area? And by better I mean, better room facilities, like larger TV, hot tub bath, balcony, separate seating/working/bedroom areas in the room. Someone said above that the hotel could be closed, so is there a open hotel close by instead.

I'd suspect that you will still be expected to work for those 2 weeks while in the jail cell hotel ?

That should take up 8-10 hours a day.

Make sure you get a suite rather than a room. otherwise you will be stuck in a small box for 2 weeks (even inmates get out of their cells for an hour in the exercise yard)-you'll go crazy otherwise

Also have a plan on what happens if the worst happens and you get sick. Is there a good hospital nearby? Is it already overloaded?

Bring a load of paracetamol etc with you

Bring a big bottle of vitamin C tablets with you but also vitamin D. You're not going to be getting much sunlight for 2 weeks if you are stuck inside a hotel room.

Contact the concierge at the front desk and enquire about other Engish speakers trapped in the hotel. Then setup a Zoom virtual happy hour every day for anyone who wants to join. Raid the minibar or order drinks up from downstairs and socialise with the other guests.

Also my OH is a yoga instructor and does online classes so PM me if you'd like to have a stab at one.

Great advice again. Looking forward to it now....

Try to get a balcony, or at least a decent view (a lot of corporate hotels don't have windows that open more than a crack, but tourist hotels often have balconies). You don't want to be staring into a courtyard or the side of another building for 2 weeks.

Hopefully a sunny balcony. In this case I would make sure to have plenty of booze and spend at least every second day getting sozzled in the sun.

I'm sure you could use the time for self improvement or maybe a bit of growing up. ;)

    +1

We paid extra for a sea view room for our honeymoon. Worth every penny. Getting up early and looking at the soft morning light on the sea will stay with me forever.

This is quarantine.. A very expensive quarantine, but still a quarantine. People talking here as if OP is paying for this or has any real choice in what room he'll have. I doubt he will and I'd say it will be organised based on other logistical factors. It certainly isn't self-isolation regardless of what the title says.

Normal folk pay $5/day to stay in a military camp for two weeks. People are worried OP won't have enough sun on his balcony.

Not sure what your point is? The OP is going willingly as it is a requirement for him before he takes up a new job opportunity.

Hide multiple vials of Oestrogen in your jocks...... Emerge from that room after 2 weeks as a strong, confident Woman.

He's going willingly, but the host country will probably be picking the hotel, and the room will be randomly assigned. It's unlikely that he, or his company, will get to decide what hotel/room/facilities he has.

I read a Twitter thread a while back where a woman was being quarantined like that in Australia (I think). They didn't know where they were going. They were put on a bus at the airport, dropped at an hotel, went to their rooms and stayed there for two weeks. A nurse called daily to take temperatures etc at the door. You didn't get to just call up room service when you fancied a snack.

Speaking of which, OP, if you have room in your luggage and fancy specific snacks, bring enough to last you a few weeks, and ration them.

Download a pile fo stuff before you leave. Bring your own HDMI cable to connect PC to the room TV.

Probably should bring a lot of non-perishable food that you like, a lot actually in case you are not too happy with the hotel food, it's not like you can find a nice restaurant.

I would not be doing it myself but best of luck.
I suggest changing the electricity on to the gas and the gas on to the electricity.

A friend of mine is in the middle of his 14 days hotel quarantine in a large Asian Country and daily posting on FB a picture of the food - some of it absolutely awful. The point made up-thread about kitchens being closed is very accurate. Be informed !
