Before this, Knockmore hadn't won a county title since 1997 (I'm aware you know this from following this thread). Would that really have a bearing on their chances of winning?

In the history of the Connacht club championship only three teams have won their maiden county championship and followed it up with the Connacht championship, ourselves in 73, Mary’s of Sligo in ‘77 and Caltra in ‘03. Tradition counts

A fair comparison would be when crossmaglen were stopped in Armagh, their county champions had lost the two previous finals, did nothing in the Ulster championship. Same second best in Ireland nonsense

Edit: it’s not from this thread that I know we won in ‘97

It's hardly rocket science to price club GAA.

There's a fair argument that MM have been the second best club in Ireland for the past few years

    Ah will ya shtop!

    What on earth

    Edit: Still laughing at this

I suppose that means Wexford, Cavan and Tipperary are more likely than Mayo to win the All ireland this year given that they've done it more times in the past

Kevin Johnston is stepping down as Ballintubber manager.

So all roads lead to Tuam next Sunday for the first of two must win contests to ensure a miraculous avoidance of relegation.

Is the game to be televised?

The sad part is given the times, the roads to Tuam will be very quiet on Sunday.....

See there is a video floating about that shows McGuinness training Galway.

I would not read too much into that. Both himself and Padraig Joyce have ben friends going back as far as their Tralee RTC days

Ohh I know that. Just shows that this idea that Galway will be this all singing, all dancing attacking unit under PJ is a fantasy. If McGuinness has any input at all then they are going to be defensively sound.

Any rumours who might be stepping into the u20 role?

Solan needed a year or two at senior club level to be in with a chance for the Mayo role after Horan.

I would not be too sure if he is having an input it would be just defensive.
2011 he had Donegal as tight as a drum, but what people overlook, that was not what won tem an AI on its own. It was the speed and accuracy of transition from defense to attack.
With Joyce being what he was, I have a feeling that both aspects would be of interest to him.

If you saw any of the league games, with forwards playing corner back and the Galway half like the pacific ocean for the opposition every time they counter attacked, you'd think different. It was exciting by my word it was scary/niave at the same time. Was genuinely afraid the dubs would put 35 on them if they got the chance.

Maybe hes trying to shore things up but by most accounts its just a one off session taken. Joyce has never been involved in a defensive game yet

Anybody want to hazard a guess at a starting 15 for Sunday?

    Hennelly ( Clarke )
    Barrett ( O Donoghue )
    Mullin
    Harrison
    Keegan
    McLoughlin
    Durcan
    Ruane
    Diarmuid O Connor
    Fionn Mc Donagh
    Fergal Boland
    Mark Moran
    Cillian O Connor
    Aidan O Shea
    Tommy Conroy

Love to see Aidan Orme and Peter Naughton  involved.TBF Conor O Shea deserves to pushing for inclusion in the half forward line based on his club championship form.

Not even sure if Harry's fit?

The bracketed players are those I'd like to start but I think James Horan will stick with those selected in the challenge game versus Donegal.

Merely speculating Mark Moran will start in Jason Doherty's absence.

Lee Keegan may well be pushed into the corner.

He'll be likely picking up Walsh either way.

Also isn't it rumoured that Naughton has thrown his lot in with Sligo and that Orme hasn't been invited to join the panel.

Doesn't Conor O'Shea play midfield for Breaffy. If giving him a tryout, I'd have him in the midfield and push Diarmuid into the half forwards. Conor O'Shea has been playing brilliant in club matches, but hasn't produced that at intercounty level. First thing, ask ourselves why? He seems to be the type of player who is intense, and the occasion may get to him. Maybe being a forward adds pressure on him, that he feels he has to constantly score or be deemed a failure. I don't know.
But in a couple of challenge games, I'd throw him in the middle and ask him to work like hell - which is what he will do anyway. Throw the shackles of him.

Sunday Times article speculating that the premiership goal glut may be partly due to players who had struggled to produce in front of big crowds finding liberation in behind-closed-doors games. Maybe empty stadiums could be the making of COS:P

Is Harrison injured or opting out?

Naughton has indeed thrown his lot in with Sligo.

He has plenty to offer Mayo going forward.

Orme has time on his side.

No word on same but there's talk that Paul Galvin may have piqued the interest of some Mayo clubs.

    Not sure TBH.

I viewed a tweet re the clubs rumoured interest.

Does his wife still host on Today FM?

The Last Word podcast and Ed's Songs of Praise is about as close as I get to listening to that station.:D

It would make sense as she's from Crossmolina.Lots choosing to relocate rurally given the current pandemic.

Not a rumour, is fact. He said it himself when he gave up the Wexford gig.

I've heard the rumours about Galvin and the clubs in Mayo.

I wasn't surprised to see him moving on from Wexford after his chat with Tomás O'Sé. I doubt the players were happy about that!

Any sign of a new jersey? I'd heard in August that if the championship was run then there was a new one ready to be released.
