We have an immersion heater which was installed a few years ago ,2017, ran fine up until recently it stopped heating the water .

at first it was a random problem turn it on one day and it works , the next day it doesn't but the following day it will. but now it's gone completely. The switch turns on and the red light indicating power has always remained on even when it wasn't heating the water. Anyone any idea what might be wrong ?

It could be the switch, loose wiring, thermostat or the immersion itself. Anybody handy (and safe) with a multimeter would quickly find the problem.

If its a dual immersion with Sink/Bath switch and doesn't work in either setting then the thermostat would be the primary suspect as its common to both elements.
