In the mid 90s the Stern Show was syndicated across the USA, the show was generating millions for Infinity Broadcasting. Stern was said to be making a 30 million per annum salary with his sidekick Robin Quivers allegely pulling in 10 million.

There was a dramatic cutoff point after that. The shows chief writer Jackie Martling was making 550k base salary and quit when they wouldn't put him up to a million. His replacement Artie Lange was put on a base of 400k before being bumped to 900k in 2006 when Stern moved to satellite. That deal was worth 500 million dollars over 5 years to Stern.

But yet still he underpayed his guys. Even key writers such as Sal Governale and Richard Christy only made 80,000 a year. Peanuts in Manhattan. Barely enough to survive in that environment.

Going back in time his most famous protege, 'Stuttering John' Melendez made a base salaryof 80,000 dollars in 2004 before he left Stern for the Tonight Show. Leno offered him 500k guaranteed per year.

The nearest earners to Stern on American Radio at the time where Opie and Anthony. They earned 5 million per annum a piece, but yet they would constantly fight for their crew on air and would give away part of their own salary if the station wouldn't pay.
