Hi all,
Vanilla are planning an update to the site on April 24th (next Wednesday). It is a major PHP8 update which is expected to boost performance across the site. The site will be down from 7pm and it is expected to take about an hour to complete. We appreciate your patience during the update.

    Hi,

    I am currently getting my TV channels through a Fiber to the home package. The 12 month contract is up and I will be switching away. The house had an old Sky dish attached. I have changed the LNB on the dish and I can tune in the channels as my TV is Freesat compatible.

    The TV interface is a bit crap so I am considering whether or not to get a box. I have seen the reviews that say the Humax boxes are highly regarded. I would also like to have Netflix integration and potentially the ability to record programs.

    An alternative would be to just use the TV for the channels and get an Android tv box for the Netflix integration. We have a Chromecast which we could use for Netflix only that the grannies something mind our child and would need an easier solution.

    Just wondering if anyone has had any experience with either of these options?

    I have been using a Humax for the past number of years and have no complaints, 7day epg, auto updates, Netflix, YouTube apps. I get Irish channels through TV tuner, I have HDD on TV for Saorview recordings, Humax remote controls Sony TV and sat receiver.

    Humax Freesat boxes are no longer manufactured, their deal with Freesat ended a year or 2 ago, these boxes still work fine if you can find any for sale. You would probably be better off purchasing one of the new official boxes. I'd go with the official boxes if you want pure simplicity and close to Sky interface.

    The Humax are official Freesat receivers,they were made under licence from Freesat. Arris are the current manufacturer, have you read the reviews on the current box, I hope my Humax keeps going for a while yet until they sort out the issues with the new box.

    I'm not a tv expert, but have one of these ferguson boxes for years without issue. Installed it myself using these guys instructions. Also reasonably priced, at about 1/2 the price of the big retailers

    Yes I was meaning more the free to air boxes wouldn't be as easy to use. I've a Humax myself for around 10 years, was planning to replace it with one of the Arris eventually, I thought they were running ok looking at the reviews I had seen.

    I had a Ferguson 120 until recently, sold it on adverts, never a bother, went with Humax for the EPG, updates, built in hdd, apps, couldn't fault the Ferguson.
