The "Wall" and Mexico's signing of the cheque?

Hong Kong umbrellas?

Venezeulans starving to the point of having to eat flamingoes?

What happened to all these stories?

They discovered life on Venus last week. No one ****ing noticed because the bigger story that day was the increasing risk the pubs in Dublin were going to stay closed due to Covid 19.

These things, same as many local issues are pushed out of the public mind.

People are bombarded with tragic events, potential wars, climate change, homelessness, racism and a host of other bad things.

The result is it’s all just mentally swept under the carpet in their mind and they just get on with their lives as best they can.

It’s why we will never make progress on climate change issues.

Neither do I. I assumed when the OP said 'stories' and chose the specific ones they did, that it meant media per se. The stories chosen are going to have inherent bias.

Nobody cares about these stories because we have an explanation for everything. We've been brought up in a world of empiricism, scientific reasoning and rationalism so anything wonderous is relegated to an afterthought.

Iran is still funding various terrorist groups,.People going to visit family in iran have been arrested for made up spy charges.

In that Al Jazeera article there is one reference to people starving:

"cash-strapped merchants refuse to stop hawking food there for the city’s five million residents, many of whom are starving."

That's it. You could substitute Caracas for New York in that sentence.

Nobody in those photos looks skeletal to me. Some people tried to maintain that there was so little food in the country that the population had to eat flamingoes. There are about 30 million people in Venezuela and about 30,000 flamingoes so that's 1 flamingo for every thousand people. So I'm guessing Venezuela's flamingo population was extincted in about 5 minutes 2 years ago. What have they been eating since? Let's face it the whole flamingo story was just made up.
