Interesting article and video from Moore's Law Is Dead

If there's truth to this then even more people will be very salty with Nvidia in the not too distant future.

The salt will be thick, as they run out to get their next Nvidia card with zero hesitation.

In fairness, its not much different to AMD releasing the WC Vega 64 and pointing to it as the flagship. Meanwhile a handful of them were made and sold, probably at a loss.

I'm interested to see how the reviewers tackle the power draw. In the past 300+ watts always seemed to be unmanageable, this isn't exactly a revelation to the industry.

Also, if you do intent on getting a 3090 to go with what I assume is a fairly chunky system, you might want to think about looking at some aircon to go with it.

Sex toys and weeb? Heads in the gutter! :pac: They looked like they were designed for young girls to me. The sort of colors you'd see on dress-up dolls. But I'd get one that had bleedin' barbie on it if was cheaper :P

And its lovely to look at modern PC tech illuminated and the fact I made it is even sweeter.

Nah I get what you're saying there's appeal but the main reason I don't care about the looks is there's markup for them. Nothing's free. I'd prefer the GPU look like a suspicious device someone tries to sneak by airport security if it meant shaving a few quid off the price. But marketing will have none of that.

Another key reason I don't focus on the looks is because eventually you stop seeing it. After months and years the PC just blends into the scenery no matter how fancy you made it. The only time it would shine is to flex about it online (which is not something I do) or impress guests for a few seconds. But if you have the spare cash and it brings joy then you'd be stupid not to make it flashy!

Is it just Amazon where the Ryzen 3000 series chips are creeping up in price?

    Might be everywhere.
4000 are due in a month so stock might be nearly done.

So I just built my first PC with everything but the graphics card as I tried to get one of the new ones. It's based around a Ryzen 3700x on a MSI B550M VDH wifi in a thermaltake v21 case. Think it's all good to go except for the GPU obviously. Is there any way to test to make sure I haven't ballsed anything up before the GPU is sorted? It all turns on and lights up but of course I can't display anything yet. Just would like to make sure I haven't made a shyte of the CPU!

Grab a very cheap GPU on adverts. Very useful to have as a backup.

"Themed PC" it's literally just a figurine left on the backplate of the card.

Have to admire the bold marketing strategy though

I watch Ancient Gameplays on youtube now and again, usually when he's discussing AMD drivers. Someone commented how we have Tech Jesus (Gamers Nexus) and not we have Tech Borat!

I sold my PC with an RTX 2060 and a Ryzen 1700 in it for €600. I think I sold it to cheap looking at the state of that :pac:

I know I said I don't care about how a system looks but are those fans literally just dangling? I don't think that's correct from a functional aspect.

Looks like it's been used in the back end of a factory warehouse, badly thrown together just to do the job, it's alos filthy. But then people are making offers ... As for "high end" ... lol ... the psu looks to be decent but other than that

Right, I can hear the scoffing already!

I have to say I ve been playing games on latest Gen consoles for so long that I hadnt went to PC for gaming, a proper PC, until recently, in the last week on my new build as i had to justify it :D:D:D

    WOW! What a bloody difference!

I started playing Destiny 2 and after sinking thousands of hours into it on consoles, its like a completely new experience on PC! Smoother, faster, more enjoyable. An incredible experience. Something like 144 fps!:eek:

Tried Div2 as well and same thing. Far better experience.

Ok, I absolutely suck at M&K on Destiny right now but Im sure I will get into it. Im only doing PVE as I would have no dignity left after trying PvP! :D

Im absolutely gob smacked at the frame rates, load times, the monitor input lag times, etc.

Im sure that most of you play PC as primary and find M&K completely natural but its like playing finger twister with my left hand as I get used to the key binds. :D But Im going to resist using a controller.

I have to say, its a way better experience so far and I always had latest consoles on release and a decent TV setup but this is on another league.

Seriously, Im super impressed and can see what ye were all harping on about on threads :D PC definitely is a superior experience so far.

Yeah man defo don't use a controller unless the game suits it,like a racing game or such.

In the long run will be way better off. Ive been on the PC long enough that now its the controller I feel janky with.

As for the feel of gaming on a good PC,its night and day.
Maybe the next consoles will be better but playing at sub 30fps on the PS4 Pro feels like garbage in this day and age.

You're not alone, I was a console only gamers for years, only got a decent enough PC to consider gaming on this year and it's been a pleasurable experience. I used to think there was a lot of faffing about, tweaking settings for every game etc to get things any way smooth but I've had zero issues. It's only a mediocre gpu I opted for [gtx 1660] but it's handled everything I've thrown at it with ease on ultra settings with decent frame rates. I've played games like The Witcher 3, Metro Exodus, Plague tale of innocence, The Outer Worlds, Forza Horizon 4 etc ... all run perfectly smooth and look fantastic - better than any game I've tried on ps4/xbone - everything just seems to pop that bit more. I'd expect the latest round of consoles to match but higher end PC will always trump them I feel

As for M&K - I'm hopeless, could never get used to it outside of slower games. I'm much more comfortable using a controller. You can get some nice ones, like third party xbox one controllers, pretty cheap these days. I have 2 controllers for mine, one is a Trust wireless, decent enough but the A button is getting sticky :/ the other is an xbo one clone from PowerA, much nicer to use only it's wired.

It does depend on the type of games you play though as Eoin mentions above, for FPS/fast action type game m&k will always rule once you get used to them. Me, I play more adventure type game, racers, platformers and beat em ups - you can't beat a controller for those. Best to have both
