In your opinion. Out of curiosity if you were in Micheal Martin`s or Stephen Donnelly`s position what would you have announced today?

    A coherent plan?

And an endgame. What actually is the endgame? I bet they do not know themselves.

From typing "sweden nightlubs" into Google Images it looks the same as any nightclub from Ireland, UK, wherever.

Almost from the word go apologists for restrictions produced explanations of how Swedish culture and behaviour naturally equates to being in lockdown. I don't buy it.

Ah yes google images, the source of all truth. Do you know anyone who lives there? Have you ever been there?

I wouldn't say their behaviour or culture ever equated to a lockdown but they do tend to be naturally fairly socially distant, not very touchy feely, no kissing and hugging when they meet like the italians etc. One and two bed apartments are affordable so you don't really see as many house shares like students and young people do here. They also have a population who have faith in the government and understand the importance of following certain rules in a situation like this. Unfortunately we don't have that here, we had to be forced via a government implemented lockdown, in Sweden asking nicely was enough. Nice place to live though if you don't mind the price of everything.

Oh yeah the old ‘The Swedes are better than us’ argument.

You must have a low opinion of yourself.
    They are at following rules

They mentioned a vaccine earlier. Seems like literally all of our eggs are in that basket.

Even level 1 is quite heavy on restrictions.

Like I said in other posts... It is either a vaccine or we run out of resources. Who knows.

Nonsense. Vulnerable people will be safest if there is low levels of community transmission. My parents are over 60 and my mother had lung cancer. They feel safe enough going out to shops and restaurants at the moment because levels of community transmission where they live are low so I’d say their quality of life is reasonably good at the moment. That would change if community transmission continues increasing where they live. I don’t want them to have to stay indoors 24/7 and I am prepared to make sacrifices so they and others like them don’t have to cocoon because it’s no life.

The restrictions are fairly manageable, don’t be such a child. It’s a pity this country is full pussies who can’t see beyond the ends of their own noses and are capable of nothing but whinging.

Well good for your folks, but mine are in their 70s and have a different view of things. They don't feel comfortable going to a restaurant, they don't like the restrictions over going to mass, and they don't like the restrictions on seeing their children and grandchildren. But they don't expect everyone else to lose out on life. They're not selfish people.

The restrictions should be left to individuals, don’t be such a child. It’s a pity this country is full pussies who can’t see beyond the ends of their own noses and are capable of nothing but whinging.

It would be very unwise of your parents to get up close to their grandchildren restrictions or no. Children for the most part aren't affected but they can pass it on.

If they don't feel comfortable in a restaurant then I don't see how they could want to go to mass either. Jesus isn't going to protect them from this. Tell them to keep an eye on the numbers in their area and find out which bars and restaurants have suitable outdoor seating, it should be perfectly safe for them and they can enjoy a meal or a pint or whatever. My parents were too worried to do this for many months it took a lot of convincing and reassuring from me to get them out to start doing stuff again but they can only keep doing things like that as long as the numbers in their area stay low.

So say you had a hotel booked for a few days tomorrow.

You now have to cancel ?

    Was it immediate effect ?

Where does this leave weddings for Dubs ?

Ah yes google images, the source of all truth.

Huh? I just looked for pictures of Swedish nightclubs and they look the same as any nightclubs so what am I supposed to think? There are pictures of girls kissing and people crowded together. Its normal human behaviour so why would I or anyone view it with suspicion or think the images were planted.

And if you were in their shoes what would yours be?

Back in May, when the crisis part of the whole thing ended, I would've sought to follow the rest of the EU, particularly with respect to travel.

An appreciation that the virus can't be stopped, only slowed, unless severe, unsustainable measures were taken (ie strict lockdown). Therefore, a strategy which focuses on those that are actually vulnerable to it and ensuring they can be protected or else the risk minimised. An acceptance that a vaccine is not a guarantee so we shouldn't hold all our eggs in that basket. Slow but steady herd immunity strategy as part of this acceptance. And the most key strategy; tell people to stop eating and drinking rubbish, sleep more, exercise, don't be overweight as this is ultimately the best approach for all but the tiny proportion who are vulnerable to covid for which this immune system bolstering can only do so much.

I looked at some of those images myself and any I saw dated from before Covid-19 appeared in Europe.

Civil disobedience is now needed. Life is too short to keep living like this

Apparently Donnelly was unwell today and is now getting sent for a Covid test...

Imagine the health minister going to work sick during a pandemic and then standing next to the CMO, Taoiseach and Tanaiste.

What exactly would you suggest? Hugging our grannies? Have afternoon tea parties with too many people? Travel abroad? Not sure I can handle all that rebellion if I'm honest.

The argument is about whether Swedes naturally shun human contact.

I don't know about post-Covid but one article I read, in The Local I think, said social distancing was over in Sweden. No way of verifying the truth or falsity of that article.

Living your life responsibly, being able to have who you want into your home and for families in different countries to be able to visit each other. I am aware of a funeral that took place yesterday and none of the lady’s relatives were able to travel home. All emigrated many years ago

Same. Session in town this Saturday with the lads for one of their fortieth birthdayS. Can’t wait for it. Pub had said we can have our table from 5-9 and then depending on if it’s busy we might have to move to the terrace. Then prob last train home and find a session back home in someone’s.

In that case I hope you are ready for more extended restrictions because if this type of disgraceful selfish behaviour continues that is exactly what will happen. Let`s hope that you or any of your buddies or family members don`t need to be admitted to hospital or worse a a result of your "session".

You might imagine that you are being smart with this type of response. In reality it is just yet another example of the ****ed up mentality of most of your cohort.
