Seen some of the Asus model claiming to be a 2.9 slot and not three :D

All eyes on Kursk. Slava Ukraini.

That's like those stories you hear of farmers who sold land for millions in 2007 before shít hit the fan. You essentially got yourself a free upgrade and a few quid in the bank.

Yes, the downside is that my pc is sitting idle since I sold as I have no backup card. Really wanted to give Flight Simulator a go too. Another few weeks I guess :)

This is what I'm wondering. Sell my 2070S now for a few hundred and get a 3070 next month, but pained thinking about the downtime.

Have a 1650 as a backup though. Think I can live with that. Realistically all I ever play is Apex and Overwatch, neither really troubles the 1650.

Which raises the question...why do I even need to upgrade from a 2070S to a 3070.

If you have a backup, go for it id say. I must pick up a backup card over the nect year myself.

    EVGA cards looking svelte.

    There'll even be a hybrid.

Anyone else smell a 3080ti just sitting in waiting for the AMD release?

So that would come in at approx $900-$1000? Is there room between the 3080 and 3090 that would be enough to convince someone to move up from 3080 to 3080ti?

Price wise the room is there id say. We'll have to wait for the reviews and proper benchmarks to be able to say for sure in performance. but historically the ti variant has been almost on par with the titan or 3090 in this case when its released at a later date. 1080ti and prior ti cards were all like this.

More like they're saving the 3060 announcement. If the '60 is in keeping with what they announced today then that would be better to battle AMD with.

No doubt. But on the off chance that AMD manage to get close to the 3080 id be very surprised if they dont have a 3080ti waiting too. Either way its going to be good for pc gamers.

I'd be very surprised if they didn't have a Super or Ti waiting in the wings, should AMD get near/pass the 3080. There's also a 20GB 3080 rumoured to appear in October.

No idea why you'd do this when spinning up an Amazon instance is so cheap

A more measured response from Hardware Unboxed than some of the other Tech Tubers.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,615 ✭✭✭Revoker88

Just finished watching that myself, came to post.

Measured for sure but still saying as it stands it looks to have really shaken up the market. Let's hope the benchmarks hold up

Also looking at partner cards on OCUK I dont really see a reason not to try and get a founders edition. Unless the cooler looks more impressive than it performs but I didn't get that impression from the presentation givin the claims about temps

There's an Asus 10gb model up for £799?! Which makes no sense to me giving founders £649

    Asus tax!

According to Lenovo, there's a 16GB 3070 Ti on the way.... (Videocardz).

Yeah, prices and pics up on OCUK......the Inno3d Cards look absolutely stellar.

Not sure how this card makes sense in terms of its positioning if it's going to be between the 3070 and 3080 - and presumably circa $600. Unless its sole purpose is to launch later to counter AMD and allow price drop on the 3070

What's the quickest way to reliably get a 3080? Those OC pre orders, or the founders edition?

I would say founders but I'd wait for reliable reviews before deciding - even if it means you miss out on the initial wave of releases

    Can anyone clarify something, please?

PCIe gen 4: required or optional? if Optional, how bad will it be on gen 3?

    Optional.

Honestly not sure it will make any difference. At least not enough that Nvidia didn't really mention it as a benefit during the launch

Do we know when the review embargo lifts?

i think there is no embargo - more availability of cards. Don't think any of the mainstream tech reviewers have any of the models yet

Digital Foundry have the 3080 anyway but they said they were only allowed to speak about certain games in their testing.

Also 3080 requires a 750 Watt PSU? My current PSU is 650. I've read some stuff about differing numbers of connector pins etc. So is there anything to look out for from the PSU, or will I just buy the best value 750 out there.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 656 ✭✭✭L

From the sound of it anyway, it looks like the 20 series will fortunately be an outlier in terms of price/performance rather than the start of a new trend.

Apparently you get the 12 pin splitter cable in the box with the new cards...so no need to worry about that. Id just get a good brand (Corsair, Seasonic, Thermaltake) with a 80 Gold stamp or similiar.

Last thing I would be skimping on is power with these cards tbh.

Just bare in mind the Seasonic cables they are making specifically for this recommend an 850W. I wouldnt buy until the reviews come out tbh. See what they recommend. Ive a 750W corsair and im sitting on the fence with a 1000W psu sitting in my amazon basket! overkill of course but if i got one that overclocked well god only knows what kinda power draw it will have.
