I walked into my father's room this evening to look upon his possessions and reflect. I find it therapeutic to remind myself daily of him as opposed to turning away and receiving a sharp shock later. Before I left the room, I noticed his mobile phone was plugged into the wall charger (my brother must have done so before he left). I picked up the phone and observed an alert on the screen: "the temperature of this device is too low to receive charge". The symbolic message wasn't lost on me, there seemed to be a symmetry beyond coincidence; it was time to let the phone go, being his and his alone. I opened the top bedside drawer, gently placed the phone inside among other key belongings and took a final pause before closing it. The heart weighs heavy but I must do the right thing.

    Sorry for your loss Bertie

I hate myself, I won't hold a grudge if Grem bans me.

Blissfully quiet. I can even hear the fridge singing its chilly tune.

Lovely now not to have to keep pushing bedcovers aside because it is too hot.

My laptop just informed me that met eireann had just issued a snow and ice warning... Sure; way back in 2017! EEJIT!

Last day of August .. Have a good one and if you are throwing food? I am here!

So sorry for your loss Bertie.

I’m finally bedside, another 20+ hour weekend put down. How annoying is it when you get into bed and THEN realise you’re hungry?! But the food is all the way downstairs and that’s so far away :(

That was so well written (and sad) sorry for your loss..
Of course your heart is heavy but time certainly helps..

My poor Mother passed 6 years ago, her picture in the hall gets a kiss every morning !!
I enjoy every minute with my Father, he's 82 and not in great health but the marbles are ok !!
    Keep Well Bertie...

That was a very moving post Bertie, I'm sorry for your loss.

In bed wide awake for the last hour. This past week has given me light at the end of the tunnel in a very unexpected way :)

Am so sorry Bertie, be gentle with yourself.

Is it just me, or are we experiencing random thread reply glitches this morning ?

Under quarantine, having to psych myself up for a covid test summons...

    Good Morrow

Bertie, I hope you will be ok, I am hanging onto the last years with my parents as they are elderly now. I can't imagine losing my Dad with his stories and jokes.

Having golden syrup porridge and tea here.

Deskside working away with a cuppa in hand and my work plan for the week ahead all mapped out.

Great to see some half-decent weather outside for a change - always the way when the schools start up again!

@Bertie's Horse - very sorry to hear about your late father. That piece you wrote was a very fitting reflection, of which there will be many over the coming days and weeks.

That’s my training done, first time that I have done it online and gotta say that its inferior to the old “hands on” training, I used to enjoy jumping in to the swimming pool :)

    Being glitched out :(

Homeside with a cuppa, wrecked tired but I need to get up and go out to do stuff soon enough. Boyfriend’s sister is getting tested for covid and I’m wondering if she tests positive should I get tested as well. I haven’t been in contact with her, but I have been with him and they live in the same house

Try adding the first day back in work after a week off to that mix & you are almost at my level of discombobulation.

Couchside, nursing duties have commenced in earnest as the OH has very bad stomach and abdominal pains - he was pretty unwell over the weekend but took a turn for the worse after lunchtime.

Took his temp - 38.5 which is very high. Waiting for his GP to phone him back after leaving a message earlier.

We now just have to wait and see what the next step will be...

Jupiter, that's very worrying. You're not getting any break from stress, are you? Here's hoping your OH is ok
