Jesus that'd be the last place I thought he'd go given how defence minded inter are, and they're not in a position to win Champions League which id say Messi wants badly

He'll go to Inter with Lautaro Martinez going in the opposite direction. He purchased a house in Milan recently near Inters training ground. The club is owned by Chinese billionaires who would have no problem paying his wages.

    Who is this reporter Widley?

He's on the guts of 100m a year at Barca. Who can pay that plus the transfer fee? The only 2 clubs who have the cash are Man city and PSG both who have come under scrutiny for FFP recently. He'll be stuck at Barca whether he likes it or not.

How are Barca funding that salary?

...They’re not. That be just under €2m a week.

Lionel Messi has told Barcelona that he wants to leave the club immediately – and on a free transfer. The Argentinian, who according to RAC1 radio had told new manager Ronald Koeman that he felt “more out than in”, has sent a fax to Barcelona informing them of his desire to go.

Messi’s camp believes that a clause in his contract means that he can walk away for no fee. Barcelona, by contrast, insist that he is still bound by a €700m (£629m) buy-out clause. The bombshell dropped on Tuesday evening with the news that Messi had told the club on Tuesday afternoon.

    People still use fax machines??

They have no choice. They signed the contract. Borrowed money I assume.

How much will he go for, more than Neymar?

Don't think he will leave, this is to force the board to resign. He's at Barcelona 20 years, doesn't speak a word of English, I can't believe he would spend his final years in Manchester.

It's all politics at Barca and he holds the most power.

Wouldn't surprise menof he's testing the waters in the hope of a new contract to see out the rest of his playing days.

It'd be a shame to see him go to Asia or the Middle East so I can only see Psg or City affording him.

How could he be on €100m a year at Barcelona. A wage of €1.92m a week. Even billionaires wouldn't be stupid enough to give someone nearly €2m to kick a ball.

Apparantly he's on 50m a year net which means Barca are paying the tax which is close to another 50m which is about 2m a week.

He doesn't earn €100m a year from Barcelona. His salary has been reported as being $35m a year, the rest is from sponsorship and endorsements.

I think you've got that wrong.

It's hardly shocking that one of the world's greatest and most famous players is on huge money with his club.

So guaranteed 80m dollars in wages according that so about €68m. That's €32m short of €100m.

I also see someone on the United forum quoting wages of about €38m + endorsements so who knows the real officially wage.

While exciting to see Messi outside Barca... Don't really have any desire to see him in a PSG or City shirt to be honest

I'd only read that figure recently, but maybe it was old information I saw. Either way, I'd consider $35m a year pretty huge money. I'd certainly take it!

Just can't see why he'd have any interest in going there. He's already getting however much money he wants - that doesn't seem to be the issue. So why go to a team that's even further away from winning the big prizes than the one he's currently at?

Could only see him having any interest in the very top tier teams that are already on the cusp of winning. And of those, the only ones who could/would pay him those wages (and whatever transfer fee is required, if there is one) are PSG and Man City. Nowhere else makes any sense.

Though to be honest, I think he'll stay at Barca, and this is a move to get Bartomeu out quicker. Bartomeu is toxic, and is a cert to be out at the next election anyway - if there's one thing that might speed up the process it's the risk of losing Messi.

No way he joins an average Inter team

Real Madrid is the likely destination. It's a path many have taken before, Laudrup, Ronaldo, Luís Figo
