0 deaths, maybe 14 in the last 4 weeks despite the spikes. Says it all. And anyone who tries to say it is still something to worry about is a lemming.

Brexit isn't formalised until the end of the year, there would be a gap in misery stories for the guts of 6 months if covid was let run its natural course!

2 drinks are enough on a Saturday night for some I'm afraid

That's all you can come up with when some calls you the nonsense you are spouting, well done.

I don't ignore the deaths, I accept and understsnd that they are no more likely to die of Covid than of the flu.

My worry is, we will be on lockdown for the rest of our lives.

Influenza will be worthy of a lockdown
Yes but Fintan, everyone with a brain on here knows you have done a thorough risk assessment on yourself to ensure you are not going to become ill from the virus before you got so brave!!!. Id imagine if you thought you would you would be hiding under the bed now. Just my opinion.

Thats the response to data posts and links to our statistics?

You are like a flat earther or an anti-vaxxer. Unable to address and interpret stats. Incapable of addressing opinions with sources. Using the word trolling as your reply means you have lost the discussion and I feel even more confident in my assertions given this is the pathetic calibre of response I have to address. After 146 Days in Lockdown, Argentina’s Virus Problem Is Getting Worse.

    https://www.bloomberg.com/amp/news/articles/2020-08-12/after-146-days-in-lockdown-argentina-hasn-t-peaked-latam-wrap?__twitter_impression=true

A 146 day prolonged lockdown in Argentina hasn't worked at all so that's some compelling evidence that lockdowns aren't effective at containing it.

What i love about this situation is the predictabilty of it ... they go with whst they perceive to be the easiest choice, they always do here. .. lockdown , except the morons seem to think its a long term solution, we are a few months out from the band of fools , being put in very awkward positions for an extended period of time... they created the situation, without any thought for even a few months down the road... let them deal with the fall out. Theyll be dealing with covid situation and the financial clusterfcuk amongst others that they created, at the same time! Lol!

Stopped watching the news months ago , ill be tuning in to watch the squirming rats again, post budget! Can then also enjoy the delicious irony of the pro lockdown rte , criticise the government, for the damage the extent of the kockdown has caused! Comedy !

And if all this doom mongering that you keep spewing out does come to pass I suppose you will be coming back here to gloat about it just as you stated some time ago despite the fact that you yourself recently voted for the very same " band of fools" and the "squirming rats"., What does that double standard say about you and your gang? Pathetic ranting bull****.

Ill be coming back to gloat, not because im some warren buffet, but because of how idiotic, purposefully triggering a recession of magnitude was!

Ive saved towards a rainy day fund for years now. Expected another recession from incompetence, cant say i saw it coming about in the way it has....

Maybe in the Vulnerable groups who would normally get a flu vaccine

Nope as an overall number. No matter how many times computing forever and the like say it is just like the flu, the seasonal flu kills 0.1% of those infected Covid 19 kills between 0.5% and 0.7%

have you stats for that boloxoligy

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,787 ✭✭✭snotboogie

have you stats for that boloxoligy

Serological testing of a representative random sample of the population to detect evidence of exposure to a pathogen is an important method to estimate the true number of infected individuals [7,8,9]. Many such serological surveys are currently being undertaken worldwide [10], and some have thus far suggested substantial under-ascertainment of cases, with estimates of IFR converging at approximately 0.5 - 1% [10-12].

    CFR of Common Diseases
Specific CFRs of particular diseases if left untreated or unvaccinated for include:

    Bubonic Plague – 60%
    Spanish Flu (1918) – 2.5%
    Ebola – 90%
    Naegleriasis – >99%
    Smallpox – 95%
    Seasonal Influenza – 0.1%

This site mentions the 0.5-1% figure.
I am sure there are other better sources.
    https://www.nature.com/articles/d41586-020-01738-2

I think most people agree it is much more deadly than the season flu.

Then maybe look at the other links already posted just before mine?
The WHO link backs up the same figure.

A recession is coming no matter what. Opening the economy will do nothing. People won't be going to packed restaurants. Offices and businesses won't suddenly just open and hire thousands of staff, businesses and and offices are open and they're operating at a reduced level, opening the economy won't magically increase levels. Shops are open in the city centre and they're not packed, and telling people they can go won't fix that.

We made a balls of the phases and now the government don't have any idea what to do

A recession may have been inevitable, they have brought one hell of a one, coming soon! A life is now worth billions seemingly.... this entire episode is likely to hammer home the entire unchecked madness of the damage a groupthink media and most of the population, damage that it can create!

People are pouring back into the restaurants and pubs from what I can see. Loads of demand there. Here in D5 you have to have a restaurant well booked in advance. Local pubs very busy too.

Even if a vaccine is found soon, say Q1 of 2021, how long do people actually think it will take to me mass produced, and administered to the people in this country?
We are way down the pecking order in terms of global influence, to even think we will be in the first few rounds of batches is laughable. It could be well into 2022 before we start to have any meaningful mass vaccination program here.

Indeed. Only way I see that happening earlier is if some of our local factories producing vaccines can contract it in from whatever company ultimately registers an effective one (assuming they don't already have a plant here). Other than that we haven’t a prayer.
There’s way too much “hope” being placed on a vaccine coming around soon anyhow- too many people thinking we can go on with mass lockdowns until then and all live happily ever after
